YouTube published its annual YouTube Rewind video for less than 24 hours ago (see above video), and it’s already the most disillusioned in the YouTube Rewind History.
8 is strongly influenced by ultra popular video games Fortnite, which opens with several people jumping out from a floating bus to an island. Other remarkable moments in the video include some K-Pop love, and Trevor Noah does the floss dance. We also see a challenging attempt to greet inspiring people who violate the rest of the clip (see 3:41).
The user response has so far been overwhelmingly negative, with the video looking at over 800,000 likes and over 1.6 million dislikes. User comments indicate that the lack of PewDiePie and Stefan Karl, its timely emphasis, and its generally “cringy” nature are guilty of the reaction.
The only other YouTube rewind video to see more dislikes them than likes is the 2011 version (67,000 likes 77,000 dislikes), with Rebecca Black as host. But the 2011 edition seems to do a much better job looking at the year compared to the latest edition.
