Yankee's thin rotation depth is tested with Luis Severino wounded

Did you know it was #SevySeason yesterday? A nice spring day Florida where Luis Severino would lead the Yankees in our debut against … who they played. None of that is important. Severino did not even do their warm-up, as he felt the right shoulder needs, which led the Yankees to scratch their start. I'm sure it was just cautious: [Luis] The Severino MR showed rotational cuff inflammation. He will be shut down for two weeks, receive an injection and anti-inflammatory, then continue his casting program. – Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) March 5, 2019 Oh. Fortunately, the Yankees have their huge depth to fall back on. Let's look at our heroes, should we? If the Yankees have to call their rotation depth, their own candidates include Chance Adams, Luis Cessa, Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisiga. Oh. Chance Adam's stock has dropped drastically; Domingo German belongs in bullpen Jonathan Loaisiga is still developing; and Luis Cessa is Luis Cessa. For a point start here or there it would not be a problem. The prospect of any of them replacing Severino, however, is very pale by all beginners. That's precisely why fans hammered the Patrick Corbin horn, even after the James Paxton trade. It was not just because it was fun to imaginatively (it's a word, trust me) to spend Hal Steinbrenner's money – that's just an extra bonus. You can see the rotation problem a mile away, and it's the same problem that plagued the yankees for years. If healthy and producing,…

Oh.

Fortunately, the Yankees have their huge depth to fall back on. Let’s look at our heroes, should we?

If the Yankees have to call their rotation depth, their own candidates include Chance Adams, Luis Cessa, Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisiga.

Oh.

Chance Adam’s stock has dropped drastically; Domingo German belongs in bullpen Jonathan Loaisiga is still developing; and Luis Cessa is Luis Cessa. For a point start here or there it would not be a problem. The prospect of any of them replacing Severino, however, is very pale by all beginners.

That’s precisely why fans hammered the Patrick Corbin horn, even after the James Paxton trade. It was not just because it was fun to imaginatively (it’s a word, trust me) to spend Hal Steinbrenner’s money – that’s just an extra bonus. You can see the rotation problem a mile away, and it’s the same problem that plagued the yankees for years.

If healthy and producing, the Yankees can have one of the best rotations in baseball. Severino, Paxton and Masahiro Tanaka make a helluva 1-2-3 blow. YES. Happ and CC Sabathia are also not shabby, especially considering how they both have risen recently. The questions surrounding their health and / or consistency have always been there, and the Yankees did nothing to deal with it.

We have said it all as soon as a starter goes down and the Yankees are forced to run a German / Cessa / Loaisiga fusion out there for a few starts, it would be bad. Well, we’re here now. It will be two weeks before Severino will be evaluated, and if all is well, he will resume his throwing plan. Then he has essentially his spring training. At best, it will take a while before we see him. Factor in CC Sabathia’s suspension to start the season, and the early rotation is not sweet.

Fortunately, the team has at least discussed adding more depth:

If they had these discussions before Severino’s injury, it could motivate them to act. It’s definitely a good thing. Gio Gonzalez may not be a spotted or big signing, but I have more faith in him than those who are in the organization today. Tom Krosnowski will have more on Gonzalez later today, but he has been about league-averages most of the time. He also holds the ball on the ground, so he would be a good fit for the Yankee Stadium as long as the infield defense can help him.

Many, including myself, have been watching for a while that the Yankees need another starter. Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez are available today. Now is the time for the Yankees to act. Severino was the pot without health issues, and he is the first to release. If the more damaging vulnerable starters get hurt, the Yankees must hit the panic button and someone may have entered the better available starters. The time for the Yankees to act is now.
