Xiaomi has officially entered the UK market, which has already made its way to Europe in the last 12 months, starting with Spain and continuing with Italy and France. It has come up with two smartphones, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite, which was shown at an event in London on Thursday, November 8th.
Both of these phones are not brand new, both launched in China in September, but they are new in Europe and currently exclusive to the UK. Mi 8 Pro is a flagship, and the phone most wants to see, mainly because of the unusual and really stylish transparent rear panel. We do not really see enough of this kind of design, and Xiaomi has been sensible because it’s not a true window in the device ̵
1; which is usually unattractive – but visually enhanced using genuine components for an authentic look. We love it.
In addition to the appearance, the fingerprint sensor on the display will attract attention. We are seeing more and more examples of this technology today, including the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and OnePlus 6T, and it also works on the Mi 8 Pro. It is under a 6.21 inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels and an 18.7: 9 aspect ratio. The battery is a disappointing little 3000mAh cell, and uses Quick Charge 3.0.
Made of glass, the body is only 7.6 mm thick and weighs 177 grams, so it’s comfortable to hold and carry around. There is plenty of power from the Snapdragon 845 processor and 8GB of RAM, with 128GB of internal space. On the back – which is consistent with an iPhone XS – is a dual lens camera. Both sensors have 12 megapixels, plus 2x optical zoom mode, optical image stabilization, artificial intelligence for scene recognition and a f / 1.8 mixer. The front camera has 20 megapixels, HDR and A.I. beauty positions.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite
Xiaomi’s second phone is Mi 8 Lite, which does not share the same design. but comes in some nice colors, including an Aurora blue and sunset gold, both with the modern slope look. The phone does not have the same spec as Pro, which you expect from the name. It is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, which has 64GB or 128GB of internal space.
The Mi 8 Lite LCD monitor measures 6.26 inches and has a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and a 19: 9 aspect ratio. There are two rear camera camera lenses, an important 12-megapixel camera and a secondary 5-megapixel camera, which also shoots bokeh style portraits and uses A.I. for scene recognition. The fingerprint sensor is on the back of the device this time, plus it’s face lock; but Mi 8 Pro will also have this feature, but it was not enabled on our test device. Finally, the battery has a capacity of 3.350mAh and Quick Charge 3.0, while the body is also made of glass, weighs 169 grams and measures only 7.5mm thick.
What we do not know at writing time is the price of either Mi 8 phones. Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite will be sold via Xiaomo’s own online store, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse from November 9 together with the three network. The Xiaomi store will open on November 19th. We are at the London event and will update when we have all official information. Forced Xiaomi to take OnePlus and Honor with its pricing and marketing.
In addition to the Mi 8 phones, the Redmi 6A will also be available. It’s a basic MediaTek-powered phone with a 13-megapixel rear camera, priced at 100 pounds sterling, or around 130 dollars, plus the Xiaomi Band 3 fitness trainer. The band has an OLED screen, 20-day battery life and a bargain price of 27 British pounds, or about 35 dollars. Finally, Mi Electric Scooter will be sold for 400 pounds, or $ 525. It has a 30km range, uses an app as a dashboard and weighs only 12kg. It is one of Xiaomo’s most popular non-smartphone products.
