WWE SmackDown Live Results, Summary, Reactions (April 23, 2019): Problems in Paradise

Welp. I doubt that any of you have particularly good odds on this result, but it is free to pay in your tickets. Kevin Owens has already been going on the new day. And you know what? I'm just fine with that. Throughout this show, champions interacted with potential contenders. Finn Balor had to keep Andrade away. Becky Lynch was confronted by Charlotte and Bayley. Hell, even IIconics is working against a feud … maybe. But the WWE champion? By contrast, Daniel Bryan's presence, Kofi Kingston, was suddenly without any contenders. He still stroked high to finally reach his dream. Welcome back to reality, master. Kofi had a single match against Shinsuke Nakamura for the main event of this show, and it was good! The Nakamura sliding German Suplex thing is cool and they both traveled in conjunction with showing a show. When Kofi struck Nakamura with a S.O.S. however, Rusev disrupted the attempt. The match was knocked out and we got a scuffle that left Kofi and KO in the ring. And. Kevin Owens did Kevin Owen's cases. Now here's what I like about this: they don't throw softballs at Kofi to throw their reign. He is facing a legitimate world-class challenger here in KO. And with Big E injured and now Xavier Woods potentially facing a major injury, Kofi's security film has been removed from him. He will have to sink or swim at the top on his own. It's exciting. It's different. We don't usually see guys…

Kevin Owens has already been going on the new day.

And you know what? I’m just fine with that.

But the WWE champion? By contrast, Daniel Bryan’s presence, Kofi Kingston, was suddenly without any contenders.

Now here’s what I like about this: they don’t throw softballs at Kofi to throw their reign. He is facing a legitimate world-class challenger here in KO. And with Big E injured and now Xavier Woods potentially facing a major injury, Kofi’s security film has been removed from him. He will have to sink or swim at the top on his own.

It’s exciting. It’s different. We don’t usually see guys like Kofi make it to the top and have to handle this type of challenge. There is a certain mystery about how it should go. Ovens also predicted this because he is always brilliant at doing so. When he returned, he mentioned &#821

1; and I strongly advocate this – that he got his priorities back in order. He knows what is most important again. Well, it has always been to support her family before. And now we have come in full circle.

I’m excited about this feud. It can be really fun.

One more round

Charlotte Flair acts as a snotty titled Brat? Bayley with a spine? I don’t even need a blazer – I’m in.

There isn’t even so much else to say, is it? Charlotte liked to lose her title without being strained despite the “Winner Take All” clause, which is exactly what we have been expecting from the Queen. Lynch did his best to explain how the winner takes all the work, but drew that approach and began to talk about what she wanted to: fight against new fights and move on to new opponents.

And we all want some degree, right? I have been waiting for Ember Moon to get a shot on a title, personally. And what Lynch suggests sounds quite reasonable.

… Well, here’s the problem. These new opponents she has in mind? They must be able to defeat Charlotte. And although she knew and complained, despite a serious edge to Bayley and a very competitive match, Charlotte still came out on top.

Here we go. One last time, maybe. Charlotte vs Lynch for money in the bank. But here’s the story of SmackDown ahead: To meet the man you must beat The Queen.

Rest

Roman governments accept Elijah’s challenge – The idea that WWE would ever punish Reigns is stupidly okay? As a viewer, I will not accept that idea because I know better in reality. I thought it hurt all their interactions on this show.

Having said that, if they really lean on the absurdity of a McMahon’s ego and let Shane and Elias play each other, this can be really good in the coming weeks.

Finn Balor def. Andrade – I’m not really a fan of how this match was framed in the end, but these two can really tear down the house. They didn’t even do anything common, did they? And yet at the end the audience was completely invested and celebrating a dub for the good guy.

Back to that frame for one second; This was basically the reverse match last week and Tom Phillips finished the segment by basically saying “yes, they are both at SmackDown!” And I understand it, whole rosters and companies are in chaos today. It would still be nice to have some clear direction for masters.

Kairi Sane def. Peyton Royce – I honestly get a huge kick out of IIconics slash and lose fast. It’s freaking hilarious. Also? Get yourself someone who has your back as Billie Kay has Peyton. Dehydration is a serious issue.

I’m also pretty down for this feud between Paige and her former teammates in Absolution. It should lead to a fun game here soon.

I’m fascinated, Aleister Black – Black got an interesting promo backstage where he sat down and talked about perception. We’ve all seen him wrestle at this point, but what does what we know about him, exactly? According to Black, the appearance of who he will inevitably induce a judgmental reaction. What if you look at the guy … yes. It is useless.

But here was the interesting piece. Black argued that if we give the time we see “the world [we] grew up to condemn him.” Set up as a piece of a hero? A heel? Who knows, but he brings a much-needed plot to the show.

Lars Sullivan looks up everyone – He beat up Chad Gable who found Balor’s old baby oil dash, Singh Brothers and R-Truth who made a run in after that fact. And then I read the lips properly and said, “It was so stimulating.” Good lord Lars!

Firefly Fun House rerun! – It’s still amazing!

Solid show. I think they have to work to make Elias / Government feud more engaging and work on giving some masters clear directions ahead, but it was another good outing from SmackDown.
