WWE does not get it

In response to degrading ratings and constant criticism of someone with a working brain who ever wasted time watching their program, the powers at WWE determined that Vince McMahon would return to Monday Night Raw until, as they hit it, "shake things up". Rumors flew around what this might mean, fans had fun going through wild ideas for any drastic action they could take to improve their TV and there was some real excitement about what would happen. What must they lose by going out of the box? By trying something new? By literally doing something different? If you thought that they would actually follow through to be different, you got a tight shot against the intestine to remind you that yes, this is still a campaign run by the McMahon family. And they do not understand. We know they do not, because the response they arrived was another shot-type promo in this terrible "Reality Era" that they were allowed to flourish in all the worst ways in which they recognized the show sucked but promised to do the better … by having Family Control Raw and SmackDown as a "united front". Yes, people actually weighed in kayfabe that the show is terrible and it's their fault for it and decided immediately to fix it was to make them continue running it but they will not argue with each other now. That this is the answer they arrived is both amazing and demoralizing in a way that nothing else could…

If you thought that they would actually follow through to be different, you got a tight shot against the intestine to remind you that yes, this is still a campaign run by the McMahon family.

And they do not understand.

We know they do not, because the response they arrived was another shot-type promo in this terrible “Reality Era” that they were allowed to flourish in all the worst ways in which they recognized the show sucked but promised to do the better … by having Family Control Raw and SmackDown as a “united front”.

Yes, people actually weighed in kayfabe that the show is terrible and it’s their fault for it and decided immediately to fix it was to make them continue running it but they will not argue with each other now. That this is the answer they arrived is both amazing and demoralizing in a way that nothing else could be. It is obvious what was already clear but at least possible to ignore earlier: they do not get it and they will never.

The following show did not do much to prove that any real change would come. It was good things, sure, but there are good things on some episode of Raw. A whole hour for women to run a Gauntlet match for a title shot? It is good! Most babyfaces do not look like worthless morons all the time? It is good! Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn return soon? It is good!

It was bad too, but we do not even need to focus on it because they made it clear at the start of the show that nothing will change at all. You can not ask fans to let you confirm that you suck the job in reality and then use the story to say that it will be better because you will be united but the story is the same as the reality, which is that you always drove the very bad show and it does not change. Even reading that sentence does not make sense!

This would not be so frustrating if this company did not swim in money with a roster so deep with talent up and down the map. They have main levels of stars around each cabinet and somehow none of them feel like main level stars. The McMahon family is guilty of it. How then do we think it will change because of this show?

I hope I’m wrong here, but nothing about this says any big change comes.
