HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) –
An incorrect driver is dead after a crash with an 18-wheeled Monday morning and turns off North Freeway at Spring Stuebner. The main lanes have since been reopened.
Debris spread across the northern lanes. Diesel fuel is also on the highway.
The Harris County Sheriff Office says that the driver of a Ford Mustang headed south in the North Road when he entered the 18-wheel.
The Ford Mustang driver was killed immediately
The authorities say they first received conversation about wrong drivers around 2:43 pm, about 90 seconds before the collision occurred.
Officials are still investigating where exactly the highway started, the man started off the wrong road. The police tell ABC1
3 some of the first talks they received around the location of the I-45 and FM 2920.
The driver of the big rig went 45mph, according to Sgt. Dashana Cheek-McNeal with HCSO.
She says the crash site is on a slight slope. When the 18-wheeler driver arrived at the top of the page, he saw the headlight of the Mustang and tried to avoid it, but the Mustang continued in its direction and crashed into HOV lane.
The 18-wheel driver was not injured.
Deputies investigate whether alcohol was a factor.
