On January 1, 2016, Lexi Reed and her husband, Danny, made a resolution to be healthier versions of themselves. At the time, Lexi refused 485 pounds. Not only did she not feel comfortable in her own body, but she also recovered from living her best life. She was determined to do something to make a change, and her perseverance paid off.

Reed fell 312 pounds through drastic lifestyle changes and she thought the hardest part of her trip to be her best self was over. But after reaching her desired weight, she began to experience a new problem, uncomfortable neck and jaw pain. According to Today the pain was due to the large amount of redundant skin remaining on her body.

“I tried to explain to the doctors that something was wrong with me, but they could not answer me,” Reed told Today . “I stayed quiet for a long time and hoped the pain would only go, but it never did.”

Her pain remained and she knew that she was stressing her body by continuing to carry the obesity. She went to Dr. Joseph Michaels, a plastic surgeon from Washington, D.C .. who specialized in surgical removal of excess skin. Dr Michaels agreed that she was a good candidate for this type of procedure and set up a series of skin removal operations for her.

Although Reed was afraid of the thought of such a drastic operation, she knew that was the best for her overall health.

“I’m just trying to get through this first one,” she said. “I’m afraid of needles, never had surgery or even stayed in a hospital. But I’m more nervous about the damage that I do on my body every day by wearing this extra skin.”

Reed underwent his First surgery on Halloween. She has shared her progress with her 1 million Instagram supporters often. She had had a lot of pain since the procedure and opened up for the severe swelling that her body had undergone. However, she drives through the pain and knows that it will be worth it when she reaches the other side.

Reed hopes that, by sharing her story, she will inspire others to start making healthy decisions when they are younger to avoid ever having to go through a similar situation. She acknowledges that before her weight loss she was almost on her death bed and proud of the work she has put in to become a healthier version of herself.
