(CNN) – Tide detergent will soon be shipped in a shoe box, part of its The parent company Procter & Gamble is pushing to adapt to online deliveries.
P & G rolled out the new “Tide Eco-Box” on Friday. It has a turn-to-open pour for detergent, an extractor stand and a measuring cup. The liquid formula, which contains less water than normal Tide, comes in a sealed bag.
The version uses 60% less plastic than sending a corresponding 150 ounce bottle of Tide because it does not require additional stock of cardboard or bubble wrapping. It’s easier and lesser in a truck-saving P & G money on shipping costs.
“Its size is perfect for the e-commerce chain,” said David Luttenberger, global packaging manager at the market research firm Mintel. “It’s a simple package for almost all consumers to pick it up, manipulate opening features and refrain.”
Tide Eco-Box will join Tide’s lineup on Amazon (AMZN), Walmart’s website (WMT), and other P & G PG partners, starting in January.
P & G – The owner of big brands like Gillette, Pampers, Old Spice, Head & Shoulders and Dawn- has worked to address the challenges of shipping more products to shoppers homes.
P & G’s digital sales increased by 30% last year to 4.5 billion dollars. They represent about 7% of the world’s largest consumer products conglomerate.
The company has organized a unit in its fabric care sector, which also includes Ariel and Downy, dedicated to digital innovations.
“This is fundamentally different approach than we previously did,” said Sundar Raman, vice president of P & G’s North American Fabric Care company.
Consumer Products Manufacturers are hesitant to customize the smallest details in their brand design to avoid shutting down the customer. But they have had to rethink their online transfer packages and pressure from Amazon’s strict delivery standards, “said Luttenberger.
Online shipping increases the risk of floating products leaking or running out of the supply chain. These products are packed, packed up and tied together with other things more often on the way to customers’ homes. And online deliveries are also stronger due to cardboard and plastic, which leads to increased environmental and sustainability risks.
In response, P & G has developed a new “AeroFlexx” package for liquid products like Dawn Soap and Old Spice Body Wash.
Cap-Less bottle and flatter design uses 50% less plastic and does not need to bubble wrap to send. P & G says that the more flexible bottle makes it easier to pour and comfortable to use with one hand.
P & G is not the only one that recalls its online order brands: British company Garcon Wines has rolled out bottle of wine bottles .. 37.090240
