Listen: M’s insider Shannon Drayer speaks rumors Mets trade, Colomé deal

Jarred Kelenic, prospects

] Selected number 6 in June in the first round of MLS draft from Mets is 1

9-year-old Kelenic Baseball America’s 4th prospect in the Mets system and is believed by some experts to have superstar potential. Swinging from the left side of the plate, Kelenic had a .286 batting agent, .371 on bass and .839 OPS in 56 matches that were shared between a couple of Mets Rookie ball federations in 2018.

Waukesha, Wisc., Native actually completed high school early, like Bryce Harper, to better prepare for a career in professional baseball. He did not play high school baseball, either, instead, joined the elite team.

After drawing Kelenic, Mets called him a “two way” player who could stick both on the plate (he has enough power to project as a corner challenger in the big) and defensively.

“We felt very comfortable choosing a player so high in the draft that has tremendous makeup, passion for the game, game intensity”, Mets director for amateur scouting Marc Tramuta said about Kelenic, according to “It has been his only goal is to play in the big leagues and be as high as possible.”

Justin Dunn, RHP Prospect

19 Choices in First The round of the 2016 draft from Boston College by Mets, Dunn reached Double-A for the first time in 2018, went 6-5 with a 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 105 strike over 15 starts (89 2/3 innings) for Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Baseball America’s fifth ranked Mets prospect, Dunn has strong points in all accounts, reaches the mid 90’s with his fastball and also has a slider, basketball and change. Converted from a reliever to a starter during his time at Boston College, he rebuked back 2018 after a rough 2017 at High-A St. Lucie.

Jay Bruce, Veteran OF

Should the deal be reviewed Bruce is likely to be in Marin’s starting line on opening day 2019, but his admission to trading would primarily be a way for Mets to make room for Canó’s salary more than anything else. The 31-year-old challenger is a two-hour All Star and three-hour Silver Slugger winner, but he also comes from the worst of his 11 major league seasons and is guilty of a basic salary of $ 13 million for each of the next two years.

A star with Cincinnati Reds who debuted in MLB at 21, Bruce has nine 20-homer seasons under his belt, including five by 30 or more. He was productive in 2017 after arriving at Mets in a trade from Cleveland and beat 29 home runs in 103 games but fought vigorously in 2018 and hit only .223 with nine homers and a .680 OPS over 94 games. He was attenuated by hip and back problems and spent time on the function list as a result in 2018.

Bruce is limited to the corner as challenger but has added the first base of his repertoire in recent seasons but he would probably see most of his time on selected hitter plays for an American league team.

] Anthony Swarzak, Veteran RHP

Swarzak carries a fairly large price tag for a 33-year-old rider, as he owe a base salary of $ 8 million in 2019, his last year under contract. Like Bruce, his 2018 season was one to forget when he put up a 6.15 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 31 strikes and 14 runs over 29 appearances (26 1/3 innings), so he would be another case of Mets shedding payroll to make Canos add-on possible.

Originally a starter, Swarzak was successful in switching to bullets 2013 and had his best season 2017, posting a 2.33 ERA over 70 combined games with White Sox and Brewers. He has had stints with six MLB teams since his debut 2009: Twins, Indians, Yankees, White Sox, Brewers and Mets.

Gerson Bautista, RHP Prospekt

The 23-year-old Bautista made his MLB debut last season, which occurs in five games with Mets spread over four call-ups.

While Bautista can reach triple numbers with his fastball, he is still a lot of work in progress. He gave six running runs over 4 1/3 innings with Mets, and he had a 5.14 ERA combined between Double-A and Triple-A 2018.
