It could not have been written better.

Compiled on its 1423th regular season game on Wednesday night, Vince Carter of Atlanta Hawks collected the 25,000th point of his career toward Toronto City where everything began for the NBA legend.

And in classic VC mode he did it with a huge dunk.

Carter, now 41 years and in the 21st season, hit the milestone when the hawks picked up an offensive rebound, gave his teammate Kevin Huerter him a quick pass and he threw down an apparent sludge when the dying seconds of the game crossed away.

With Carter at 24, 999 points and the game out of reach of Atlanta, three Raptors in the color showed some class by letting the eight-time All Star fly against the rim by contrast.

He became the 22nd player in the NBA story to hit the uneven milestone.

Started the competition, he was 13 points shy of the mark and picked up four at half-time of 2 to 4 shooting from the field. He added a pointer in the third quarter to leave him six shy of 25K with 12 minutes left.

Then in fourth he hit a three pointer and two free throws to set the historic moment.

After being drafted by Golden State Warrior’s fifth overall in the 1998 NBA drafted, he was traded to Toronto and immediately impacted. The Raptors were in their childhood as an NBA franchise and Carter was the kind of player the team needed to build their fan base.

The Carter’s first season Raptors ended with a record of 23-27, good for tenth in Eastern Conference, but VC was electric. He reached 18.3 points and was named 1998-99 anniversary for his efforts.

During his recent interview on Inside the Green Room, Raptor’s super fan Nav Bhatia talked about his memories of Carter and the lasting impact he had on the franchise.

“The Canadians are very guilty of VC 15,” said Bhatia. “He took us to the basketball world, you know … We lasted here because Vince was here at the right time for us.”

Almost secondary to this story, the Raptors won the game 124-108. They improved to 15-4 while the Hawks fell to 3-15.
