Unfortunately, however, sets are dead

Referring to several sources, Mary Jo Foley reports that Microsoft has silently canceled plans to add Sets to Windows 10. As you may remember, Microsoft Sets announced in late 2017 and originally planned to release this feature added a tab-based shell around the application windows-as part of a 2018 version of Windows 10. But after short testing of Sets, Microsoft drew it from pre-release Windows 10 buildings and has not mentioned it in any official capacity. We know that it will not be included in Windows 10 version 1903, which was recently closed, as it was never tested as part of this release. But last week, Sets fans got some hope when a Microsoft senior application manager said on Twitter that "adding tabs is high on [Microsoft’s] to do list" even though Sets are not included in Windows 10 version 1903. In the good news section, Sets-like tabbed user interfaces appear to come to upcoming versions of File Explorer, Windows 10’s file management app, and to the Windows 10 console applications, which should meet the most common needs of Sets similar functionality and avoid problems that ordinary users may have had with tabs that pop up over Windows.
