President Trump used President Obama to raise a question of immigration on Tuesday when he tweeted a video of the former president who spoke about stopping illegal immigration.
“I agree with President Obama 100%” Trump wrote above a clip of then-Illinois Sen. Obama gives a speech in 2005 which contained a difficult conversation about immigration.
“We are a generous and welcoming people here in the United States, but those who enter the country illegally, and those who employ them respect the rule of law and they ignore those who follow the law,” said Obama in the tweeted clip. .
“We simply can not allow people to pour into the United States undiscovered, even documented, unconfirmed and circumvent the line of people who wait patiently, diligently and legally to become immigrants in the country.”
A longer version of the same clips published on C-SPAN show that Obama says “safe living alone” is not enough ̵
1; as he advocates the “Law of Safe American and Ordinary Immigration”, a landmark immigration bill proposed by senator John McCain and Ted Kennedy.
The bill was never voted in the senate.
