Video director Dave Meyers has long been synonymous with hip hop’s most true bending visual. He made Kendrick Lamar the pope of egomania in “HUMBLE.” The Missy Elliott star in a house of hip-hop horror for “Get Ur Freak On” and transported OutKast to a residential project with purple grass in “Bombs Over Baghdad.”

Now, he applied his caledoscopic lens to the theme park’s psychedelia by Travis Scotts Astroworld. The result is a multi-dimensional landscape full of special effects that perfectly fit the second single “Sicko Mode” ft. Dragon. It’s a perfect match for a platinum song that moves sonically from gothic bodies to sludgy bass back to bouncing BPMs for five minutes.

The thematic video finds Scott and Drake living in an alternative universe called Houston, Tex. of a solar eclipse that gives a surreal attitude to all types of illegal behavior, doubling as a big tribute to Scotts hometown. Scott stands in a crowd, later connected to Drake, outside of Screwed Up Records & Tapes, where the Houston Hip Hop icon DJ Screws mixtape legend continues. There are plenty of visual Easter eggs (like the animated graffiti image of Screwed Up Click veteran Big Hawk), but nobody says Astroworld like the Canadian homie Drake, who lives in his adopted southern outpost while Swangin and Bangin in the back seat of a driver’s Caddy. It’s a good look.
