PHOENIX, Arizona – An autopsy performed on a transgender woman’s body, which died in the May ICE store in May, found that she probably died as a result of severe dehydration complicated of HIV infection but also found evidence that she had been slaughtered.
The body of 33-year-old Roxsana Hernandez Rodriguez, who was HIV positive when taken in ICE storage, showed deep bruises on the left and right sides of her breast that were not obvious externally, according to the independent autopsy performed on her family.
The autopsy also found deep contours on the left and right sides of her upper back.
The “blunt f orce trauma of lateral chest walls and rear chest (s) indicating stroke and / or kicks and any strikes with blunt objects”, according to the autopsy report.
The independent autopsy also found “extensive deep bleeding” on right and left wrists and hands “typical of cuff injury.”
The independent autopsy was performed on behalf of the members of the Hernandez family. It was released this week as part of an incorrect application for filing filed on Monday with the New Mexico Attorney General Office of Transgender Law Center and Andrew Free, a civil law attorney in Nashville representing Hernandez’s family.
Free, the lawyer representing Hernandez’s family, told the Arizona Republic he believes that the injuries found on Hernandez’s body through independent autopsy occurred while Hernandez was in ICE custody because the injuries were relatively recent.
Hernandez presented himself to US border workers at San Ysidro Port near San Diego on May 9th and died on May 25, Free said.

Further, Hernandez was surrounded by other immigrants, many of whom were interviewed as part of
“None of these people reported any physical abuse that would have been indicated by the pathology that occurred in Mexico or before the crossing,” said Free. 19659008] He said there were no allegations of physical abuse while Hernandez was In addition, autopsy also found no evidence of “defensive” wounds or bruises usually caused by “laying hands up” indicating that Hernandez fought while handcuffs, he said.
“Merging the timeline and dating the damage based on pathology, it seems that the damage occurred when she was handcuffs and in storage, said “Free,” but he acknowledged “there is no 100 percent security.”
ICE spokesman Leticia Zamarripa said in a written statement some allegations that Hernandez Suspected during ICE storage is false.
Hernandez was part of the caravan for immigrants from Honduras and Central America who arrived in Tijuana in April after leaving Tapachula in southern Mexico in March. That trolley preceded the much larger migratory caravan that has arrived in Tijuana in the last two weeks.
The independent autopsy was performed after an official autopsy performed as part of a death investigation by the medical investigator’s New Mexico office. [19659008] The death study has not yet been completed and the autopsy results have not yet been released, “said Alex Sanchez, a spokesman for the University of New Mexico Health Science Center, which oversees the medical investigator’s office.
Independent autopsy was performed on June 8 by Dr. Kris Sperry, an independent pathologist in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Sperry was Georgia’s leading physician from 1997 until he suddenly retired after 2015 after the Atlanta Journal Constitution published a survey. The survey reported that Sperry moonlighted as a paid forensic expert for over 500 cases while he was employed as the state’s chief physician.
Sperry did not respond to an email request for comment.
Hernandez joined ICE custody on May 13th and was transferred to the Cibola County Correctional Center, said ICE officials.
She arrived on May 17th at Cibola General Hospital with symptoms of pneumonia, dehydration and complications associated with untreated HIV. Later in the day, she was transferred via air ambulance to Lovelace Medical Center, where she stayed in intensive care until she died, said ICE officials. Personnel at Lovelace Medical Center identified the preliminary cause of death as cardiac arrest, ICE officials said.
“A review of Hernandez’s death conducted by ICE Health Service Corps healthcare professionals confirmed that she suffered from a history of untreated HIV,” said Zamarripa. “The medical staff treating Ms Hernandez at Cibola General Hospital or Lovelace Medical Center never takes up any problems with suspected physical abuse.”
