Lillard was unstoppable in the third quarter when he made his first seven field goals, including five three points, and made the will against any defender he faced. Most of his shot came through Blazer’s “flow” break and without any gigs, when Lillard ran around screens and shot shots in rhythm. His individual effort helped Blazers outscore Clippers 42-28 in the third quarter and carry a 100-88 lead in fourth.

Lillard finished 39 points and six assists while doing 11 out of 20 shots, including 6 out of 7 three pointers.

CJ McCollum scored 27 points in 11-for-19 photography and Jusuf Nurkic scored 20 points and seven helped Blazers, which improved to 2-1 against Clippers (17-13) this season. [19659002] Tobias Harris had another impressive excursion to Blazers, finishing 39 points and 11 rebounds, and Danilo Gallinari scored 22 points for LA, leading to his sixth loss in the last seven games.

They said it

“It’s one of those nights where he got hot,” said Moe Harkless of Lillard. “It’s a kind of catch yourself that you’re just watching at times. He was great.”

MORE ON LILLARD’S OUTBURST

Lillard’s outbursts started innocently at. 10:21 left in the third quarter when he switched a three-pointer to trim a five-point Clipper’s lead to 63-61. But it was the beginning of the end of LA

He threw a help to Nurkic on Blazer’s next possession to tie the game and then finished a run after possession to give Blazers a 65-63 edge. Suddenly Lillard felt it and Blazers never dragged again.

Lillard switched on three pointers back and forth a few minutes later and then finished his individual three-latch, a back-back trouble and another three. The last long distance shot came at 2:54 and delivered Blazers a 95-80 leader.

“It’s wonderful,” said Blazer coach Terry Stotts. “He was on his way. When you give him time and give him space, I think about our chances.”

And, as it turned out, Blazers needed every bit of Lillard’s incredible individual effort.

CLUTCH CLOSE [19659002] Despite Lillard’s hot third quarter, Clippers made things interesting along the stretch, Gallinari drove after play and Harris and Shai Gilgeous-Alexanders two-way play for a 39-31 quarter-quarter benefit that seemed to last forever .

The quarter contained 22 hairstyles and 36 free throws as a fast and intense game value.

When it finally came to an end, Blazers had done just enough games to win. 19659002] The biggest came 30.2 seconds left when McCollum swept a backstopper over Gallinari to give Blazers a 127-123 lead that proved to be enough. Gallinari replied with a wild tree, but McCollum and Lillard scored four free throws in the last seconds to seal the victory.

HOT START

As Blazers played during their victory over Toronto Raptors on Friday night, they were even better at the start of Monday’s game.

With McCollum and Nurkic turning out to hit Clippers inside and out and Harkless plays one of his sharpest and most fluid first quarter of the season, Blazers opened an early 15-point lead.

Portland made 13 of their first 16 shots, with most of the injury coming in, because everything was to click on crimes. With 2:30 left in the first quarter, Zach Collins handed the ball to Nurkic on his left wing and – amazingly – it was not a Clipper’s defender within five meters of him. So Nurkic fell to the cart up for what was the easiest basket in his career and completed a two-handed monster that gave Blazers a 35-20 lead.

But the management did not even do it in half-time

BENCH BACKTRACK

A game after their revival against the Raptors, Blazer’s bench was back to its upside down.

When Stotts started subbing in his backups by 3:39 in the first quarter, Blazers led 32-18. By that time he reintroduced his starting line at 6:45 in the first half, the bench had been outscored 25-12, coughing all but two points in the double digit line.

In less than nine minutes Blazer’s momentum had disappeared. At half time, their lead – Clippers had a 60-58 edge. Things did not get much better in the second half.

After his divorceful performance against the Raptors, Blazer’s bench almost cost them on Monday when all five of the backup ended with negative plus minus in a sloppy and uninspired performance. Only one player (Evan Turner) scored twice in points (10 points) as the bench was combined to score 24 points – 34 less than they had against the Raptors.

Clippers great man Montrezl Harrell was thrown 7: 4 left when he received a Flagrant 2 error to bend Nurkic in the face when the two struggled to recover under the basket . … Harkless had a solid trip, registered 13 points and four rebounds, while doing 5 out of 7 shots. Blazers start small forwards 30 minutes – his second most in 17 games – and said his surgically repaired left knee was as healthy as it was all season. “It’s exciting,” he said. “I’ll start feeling like once again.” … Meyers Leonard played with five stitches in his mouth and a fat lip, the result of a Caleb Swanigan elbow from Blazer’s Sunday afternoon practice. … Stotts won his 289th match with Blazers. He needs another three wins to pass Rick Adelman (291) to second place on Blazer’s winning list.
