Caps forward Tom Wilson was ejected from Washington’s 6-3 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday after a hit on Devils forward Brett Seney . On Saturday morning, TSN’s Bob McKenzie told us that Wilson will not have a hearing and will face no supplemental discipline.

The hit came late in the second period.

Seney returned for the third period. Wilson was assessed a match penalty.

Opinions about the hit differed. Devils head coach John Hynes thought the ejection was the right call, and team captain Andy Greene described the hit as “senseless.” Caps head coach Todd Reirden thought the ejection was due to Wilson’s reputation and the play should have resulted in no more than an Interference call.

Match penalties can be rescinded, and WaPo’s Isabelle Khurshudyan reports that the department of player safety will likely do that.

Wilson was suspended twice last season and once again during the 2018 playoffs. He was suspended twenty games (later reduced to 14) for a preseason hit on Oscar Sundqvist. Wilson has scored 13 points in nine games.
