During the last weeks it has been rumored with the possibility that Spotify completely change its free mode , through an update in your mobile app. In the beginning, all the news regarding this change of direction would be announced next week during a conference.
But today, The Verge could have had access to the new application of Spotify for Android, which incorporates the main changes that we will see in the new free mode of the platform, including a renewed interface, the option to play songs manually in certain playlists , and more news that would reduce the existing gap between the free modality and the Premium .
Looking at the screenshots, the changes at the interface level are more than evident. We find a more colorful appearance, especially thanks to the boxes that contain different categories in the search tab. In addition, the option of Play on demand , which is probably the most important novelty of this new free Spotify .
As you probably know if you are not a user Premium from Spotify, it is currently not possible to play specific songs manually, as this is an option limited to paying customers. Thanks to Play on demand , however, this could change, and users of the free mode could manually choose which songs to listen to , although only those within certain playlists preselected by the platform.
But some other function has also disappeared. For example, the “Radio” button no longer appears, and everything points to the fact that this feature has completely disappeared , since it is not found in any menu of the application. In addition, the last hole on the right of the lower navigation bar is dedicated to displaying a “Upgrade to Premium” warning, which encourages users to become paid customers of the platform.
At the moment we do not know if these are all the changes that are to come, or if we will see more features once the new application is released. It has been rumored on several occasions with the possibility that the app incorporates voice control , although it is unknown if it will be an exclusive option for users Premium . Anyway, next week we will leave doubts, and finally know the future of Spotify for users of the free mode.
