TUSENT OAKS, California – A father’s desperate search for his son ended in crushing heartbreak in a thousand Oaks on Thursday.
“I’ve been here fighting for him all morning, and we just got the news that he was one of those killed last night,” the man, Jason Coffman, told reporters, stifling back tears. “His name was Cody Coffman, my firstborn son.”
“Just him and I feel a lot I love … how much I miss miss him,” Coffman said, holding his fist in his heart as he struggled to speak. “Oh, son! I love you so much.”
Cody Coffman, 22, a youth baseball coach who had planned to join the army, according to his father, was one of the dozen people killed when a gunman opened fire inside the Borderline Bar and Grill.
Telemachus Orfanos, 27, was a survivor of last year’s shooting in Las Vegas, where a gunman killed 58 at the Route 91 Harvest festival last year. He had also been a Navy SEAL, said his father, Marc.
“He was a survivor in Las Vegas and how ironic, right,” Marc Orfanos said. “And [he] was a bit of a gun enthusiast. You know who I’m responsible for this – the gun culture, OK.”

] Justin Meek, 23, an alumn of California Lutheran University, was also killed. The university said that he “the helmet saved life in the event”.
Cal Lutheran students said that witnesses told them that Meek jumped in front of his sister and others to protect them.
“Everything he did was really brave” Meeks friend Lala Lyman, who was not in the bar. “It was heroic. We lost someone really well.”
“Cal Lutheran sweeps his arms around the Meek family and other families and around every member of this community of concern,” said the university on its website.

Meek graduated from Cal Lutheran in May – like his mother told friends to NBC News.
Meek enjoyed the country’s theme Borderline because he loved dancing dance, said comrades – he even founded Cal Lutheran’s line dancing club. He had promoted Wednesday’s “College Country Night” event on his Instagram page.
Sean Adler, 48, a married father of two, worked on Borderline to earn extra money, said his sister Valarie Adler to NBC Los Angeles. “From what I understand Sean tried to disarm the shooter,” said Adler. “It’s typical of Sean, he was a protector who always stood up for people. He was a caring, compassionate person. I just do not understand. I do not understand the world.”
Shook down while trying to save lives was Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29-year-old veteran from Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Helus, 54, was married to a son. He called his wife just before entering the bar, where he was killed in a fight with the gunman.
“I have to go. I love you, I’ll call you later”, his boss, Sheriff Geoff Dean, quoted him as saying.
Sheriff Sgt. Eric Buschow said that Helus “had every intention to go in there and end the threat and save lives”.
“Unfortunately, he was just hit by shooting immediately,” Buschow said. “It’s a tragic loss for all of us, for society.”

Another victim was Alaina Housley, 18, a student at Pepperdine University and actress Tamera Mowry-Housley. The university said she was from Napa, California, and was a beginner in English.
Mowry-Housley and her husband, former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, spent the night trying to find out what had happened to Alaina. Adam Housley, who went to Los Robles Medical Center at 3:30 in the morning to look for her, told the Los Angeles Times that he feared the worst because her Apple Watch and her iPhone showed her place was still in the bar. 19659009] Housley later gave a statement to Alaina’s parents, who said in part: “Words can not describe our sorrow about losing our daughter Alaina. She was everything we could hope for in a child: , beautiful and respectful. “
Madeleine Carr, a junior with journalism who once interviewed Housley, said she quickly became a prominent member of college.
“She has only been here since August and she had already found her in the driving and mock trial and all these different aspects of society,” said Carr. “Usually you see that people only get involved in one – not all. And she seemed to have found her into the hearts of many people. “
Police officers identified the shooter as Ian David Long, a former Navy. 19659042]
