The secret service says it has intercepted two suspect packages addressed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Westchester County, NY, and former President Barack Obama in Washington DC “The packages were identified immediately under routine post-screening procedures as potentially explosive devices and appropriately handled as such, “said the secretarial service in a statement Wednesday. “The protection recipients did not receive the packages or risk receiving them.”
The package to Clinton was intercepted late Tuesday and the package to Obama was canceled early Wednesday morning.
CNN also reported that its new York City office was evacuated on Wednesday morning due to a suspicious package containing a suspected explosive device. CNN Anchor Jim Sciutto reported that the Police Bombs Group was in place and New York Police Department advised people to avoid the Columbus Circle area where the office is located.
The New York Police Department confirmed that its officers investigated a suspicious package in the Columbus Circle. It is not clear if the CNN incident is related to the other suspected packages.
As for the Clinton and Obama package, the Service says that It investigates the incidents using “all available federal, state and local resources to determine the source of the packages and identify those responsible.”
The FBI New York Field Office said in a tweet that it is” aware of a suspected package that exists near the Clinton dwelling in Chappaqua, NY “.
Local law enforcement told the NPR that “this morning assisted the police department New Castle FBI, Secret Service and Westchester County Police with the investigation of a suspicious package” and added that “the matter is currently under federal investigation.”
Hillary Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, bought a house in Chappaqua, N.Y., 1999; two years ago they bought a second house next door.
When the Obama family left the White House, they rented a house in the D.C. Kalorama neighborhood they bought months later. The couple has said they want to stay in Washington, DC, until their youngest daughter, Sasha, finishes high school.

In a statement, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, “We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton and other public figures.” She added: “These terrorist acts are despicable, and someone in charge will be held responsible for the team’s full extent.”
The report comes one day after an explosive device was found at the home of Millionaire George Soros – a frequent contributor to democratic and progressive reasons – on Monday afternoon. Soros, like Clintons, lives in Westchester County, N.Y.
Soros has donated money to the Open Society Foundation, which has been a financial supporter of NPR.
