Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon. Here are three takeaways from the session:

Estimates Malcolm Jenkins
There was something Jim Schwartz said on Tuesday that just seemed to be in my head for a while after leaving the press conference. It was about Malcolm Jenkins, who in that game needed to move from security to nickel corner after another cornerback (this time Chandon Sullivan) went down.

“He is a good allround player,” said Schwartz. “I do not know if we could have won that game without having a guy like Malcolm Jenkins.”

He is right. And he is not only right about this game. I do not think we appreciate Jenkins enough on the whole. Since arriving in 201

4, he has become one of the best and most versatile Eagles players we have ever seen.

Including playoffs, Jenkins has played 5,248 of 5,339 defensive snaps (98.3 percent) in his year in Philadelphia, missing most of these snaps in blowouts or games that did not matter. He has played 708 out of 709 this season. And he played a variety of positions: safety, corner, nickel corner, linebacker, all based on necessity. And these snaps do not even include the role he has been held on special teams.

Over the years, and especially since Schwartz took over as defensive coordinator, the eagles have constantly relied on Jenkin’s versatility. Even on their driving to Super Bowl last season, he basically played linebacker for the second half.

Probably not enough, but Jenkins is a full-time star in Philly.

D-line did its job
The Eagles relied on their high defensive line and the device really came through for them on Sunday against the giants.

Schwartz said that he only blitzed twice the entire game. It was probably not necessary to have so many young players in the secondary, but it put a lot of pressure on the D line.

“And it went to our D-line, and they were up for the challenge,” said Schwartz. “A pair of bags that put the giants into some long-standing situations. It helped our coverage that they did a good job to stop driving.

” I can not say enough about how Fletch [Fletcher Cox] – Fletch played not only at high level, but he played with the kind of toughness and leadership that you expect from a guy, and that had a lot to do with our ability to get on the winning side of it. “

Schwartz also said Tim Jernigan in his 20-step return, took some energy.

It was good to see from the eagle’s defensive line. They will need these types of games from them down the distance if they want to run. 19659002] All Day
Schwartz noted that sometimes driving runs lose momentum when they grow older. He said he did not know if Adrian Peterson has lost momentum, but he knows that Peterson has not lost any power.

“He’s still strong who can be, “said Schwartz.

The Eagles will meet Peterson on Monday evening. The 33-year-old back has 758 meters of rushing and six touchdowns this season. For an Eagles team that has had its misconduct to deal with it this season, it’s important that they get Peterson on the ground and not let him get a lot of meters after contact.
