LOS ANGELES (AP) – Democrats Gil Cisneros captured a Republican household in the US House in southern California on Saturday, where a democratic route was dropped where the party raised six congress seats in the state.

In what had been the latest undecided house contest in California, Cisnero’s Republican Young Kim struck for the state’s 39th district. The Cisneros victory cement a fantastic political change that will leave a large part of Los Angeles metropolitan area under democratic control in the Chamber.

With Kim’s defeat, four Republican household districts come in Orange County, California, a single nationally known GOP fortress southeast of Los Angeles, having moved in a election to the Democratic Column. The change means that the county &#821

1; Richard Nixon’s birthplace and seat of his presidential library – will only get democrats representing their Washington residents next year.

Democrats recently also retrieved the last Republican palaces deployed in Los Angeles County when Democrat Katie Hill took republican republics. Steve Knight.

With other gains, the Republicans also lost a place in the rural Central Valley – Democrats will hold a 45-8 edge in California’s US huts next year.

The district was one of seven targeted Democrats across California after Hillary Clinton bore them in the presidential 2016.

Cisneros, 47, a $ 266 million lottery jackpot winner, had been locked in close competition with Kim in a district like has become increasingly varied. It is about equally distributed between Republicans, Democrats and Independents, as with Asians, Hispanics, and White.

Kim, 55, a former state legislature, worked for years to withdraw the republican republic Ed Royce, who left the seat and had approved her.

In a state where President Donald Trump is unpopular, Kim tried to create a distance with the White House on trade and health care. Her immigrant background – and gender – made her apparent in a political party whose leaders in Washington are mostly older white men.

“I’m another type of candidate,” she said.

It was not enough. Democratic ads showed her like a trump bubble, eager to perform her agenda.

Cisneros, a first candidate, described his interest in Congress as an extension of his time in the military – he said it was about public service. He runs a charity foundation with his wife.

In the hospital he spoke of his mother who went without insurance for 16 years. “It should not happen in this country,” he said.

While the election gave mixed results around the United States, California’s reputation was confirmed as a democratic fortress.

Democrats are about to keep every government office – again. The party holds a large majority in the legislature’s two chambers – and a 3.7 million advantage in voter registration.

There was not even a Republican at the US Senate vote.
