TCL, the company responsible for the current BlacBerry, has finally announced the renewal of the BlackBerry Keyone, a terminal that last year surprised everyone, by a design that, although not too innovative, dared to preserve the essence of the traditional BlackBerry. The BlackBerry Key2 arrives to pick up the witness of that device, and does it without too much shocking news, but with what is necessary to stay up to date in the competitive Android market.
If we expect infinite screens, notch or complex fingerprint sensors, we are not facing the right device. BlackBerry repeats the formula to which many professional users cling and offers what nobody else gives, a physical type QWERTY keyboard and a decent screen with a set of solvent and updated hardware. Let’s see what we have.
There is not much to say that we have not already said in previous leaks, since the photographs of the device They had been circulating the network for a while now. The BlackBerry Key2 offers a design very similar to its predecessor, with a more stylized front speaker, a diamond shaped texture in the back and a camera and integrated sensors in a much more discreet and elegant way in the upper frame of the device.
BlackBerry has decided not to touch the screen , which is still 4.5 inches with IPS technology and a resolution of 1,620 x 1,080 pixels , so we still have the same pixel density of 434 ppi.
The chassis of the BlackBerry Key2 is 151.4 x 71.8 x 8.5 millimeters, so the new device is a bit higher, narrow and thin than its predecessor (149.1 mm x72.4 mm x 9.4 mm), in terms of materials, we have 7000 grade aluminum that gives great resistance to the device.
The biggest changes we see in the rear, where beyond the new pattern used (TCL ensures a better grip thanks to it), BlackBerry aims to improve the photographic aspirations of its new device aiming at the fashion of the double photographic systems, and for that it includes two sensors of 12 + 12 megapixels (PDAF), with openings f / 1.8 and f / 2.6 , this second sensor being focused on tasks such as Portrait mode and the Optical SuperZoom .
That the new BlackBerry Key2 pretends to be a good multimedia smartphone we also see it in its video capabilities, since now we have the possibility to record 4K in HDR quality . Luckily, we still have a headphone jack port located next to the USB port of type C, so TLC does not add the trend of phones without a 3.5mm jack.
As we have already discussed the photographic aspect of the BlackBerry Key2, we now focus on the data of performance of the device, where we find a SoC Snapdragon 660, 6 GB of RAM, and a storage of 64 or 128 GB depending on the version chosen that we can expand using microSD
But not everything important is inside the BlackBerry Key2, and the keyboard also undergoes some improvements, with some keys that are increased in size by 20 percent, and the presence of both a fingerprint reader as of the new key “Speed Key” , a kind of programmable multitasking that gives us access to the 52 most used functions from any point of the device and without having to return to the home page.
At the software level, the BlackBerry Key2 works under the operating system Android 8.1 and is also compatible with Google Len s, in addition to integrating the security system of DTEK ™ that allows us to easily manage the accesses of the applications to the permissions of the device and have a quick summary of the current state of security of the same.
This device will begin to be marketed globally this month with a recommended retail price of 649 euros.
