A senior in the Heisman Trophy conversation throughout the year, Grier is seen as one of the headquarters of this year’s NFL Draft Class. He released a statement by WVU athletics:

Dear Mountain Climber Family:

“Since we arrived in Morgantown, Jeanne and I have been welcomed to the Rock Climbers family and, together with Eloise, we have been so blessed by the support and love of so many . I hope you know, in return, that I’ve given up everything and worked hard every day to help our football programs and universities. “

” While we did not win every time we took the field, and I’m responsible, I can assure you that we tried. After discussions with Jeanne and my family and after receiving professional input, I have decided not to participate in our upcoming bowling game and focus on preparing myself and my family for what I hope is the next step in our trip. I would like to thank Coach Holgorsen, Coach Spavital and all our coaches to believe in me and most important to my teammates, who are now lifelong friends who taught me the true meaning of TEAM.

“It has been an honor to wear the WVU uniform, and I really thank all mountain climbing nations to let my family and I be part of something so special. Country roads, take me home …” [1

He has also rushed for three points as the 16th ranked rock climber (8-3, 6-3 Big 12) jockeyed for a place in a new year’s six bowl before losing his last two races. Grier sits among the top 10 at national level in 11 statistical categories.

“Come and I talked a long time about the bowling game and I fully support their decision to start preparing the NFL draft,” said WVU coach Dana Holgorsen. “While we will miss him in Orlando, WILL’s commitment and service to WVU Football in the past three years to talk about for many years to come. He led us with class, hard work and a willingness to learn and set a high standard for his teammates. He will always be part of our family and we wish him, Jeanne and Eloise, all the best in pursuit of their dreams. “

Without Grier, rock climbers are expected to launch redshirt sophomore Jack Ellison, a Palmetto, Florida, born in Miami in 2016 before being transferred in 2017 and released last fall due to NCAA rules.
