Phoenix Suns has fired coach Igor Kokoskov less than a year after hiring him, says league sources to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Coconut, a Serbia who was the first head coach born and raised outside North America in the NBA story, was engaged by the sun on May 2 last year to help steer the rebuilding of the Suns. He was the assistant coach of the Utah Jazz at the time of his rental.
One factor that played into the sun’s motion was their plan to target Philadelphia 76’s assistant Monty Williams, league sources told Wojnarowski. Williams has also been a candidate to fill the Lakers main coaching position, which is planning a second interview with Williams soon, sources said.
When the suns rent a new coach, it becomes their seventh in an eight season span.
