The 5 Wolverines take over the best spot for the first time this season after winning in the State of Rival Michigan State and watched the rival Ohio State blow out. Jim Harbaugh’s team has won seven straight after losing his season opener to Notre Dame. UM has a hired week before he hosts Penn State.

Another year, another half season blowout loss for No. 1
1 Buckeyes, who all fell from No. 2 in the Associated Press survey. OSU could not drive the ball against Boilermakers – Dwayne Haskins threw the ball 73 times – and was cut for 539 meters. Someone will have to run the Big Ten table to have a Playoff team.

18th century Hawkeyes continues to add impressive results to the board. Maryland has been dangerously offensive but only had 115 yards to Iowa. Nate Stanley came back to earth, but Kirk Ferentz’s team shows that it can win in different ways.

The 20’s lag behind Iowa despite head-to-head win. It’s close, and UW still controls its position in the west, but Hawkeyes just looks like a better team right now. Back-to-back co-trips to Alex Hornibrook do not help. A limited UW defense forced five Illinois half-turns, an encouraging sign.

What a profit for Boilermakers, who may not be done climbing these rankings just yet. Jeff Brohm’s team put a coveted achievement on the board after he quietly gathered some of the best offensive numbers in the country last month. A long way to go, but Purdue has won four straight and has Iowa and Wisconsin home along the stretch. This team is a threat to the west. David Blow sings it, D.J. Knox is dangerous out of the backfield and Rondale Moore is this man.

The 17 Nittany Liones must fight tooth and nail to fly from Bloomington with a victory. Something does not completely clash on the offensive after some early season explosions. Much potential, but also a robust way forward for the next three weeks with Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
7th NORTHWESTERN (4-3, 3-1)

Pat Fitzgerald’s team found a way. Barely. It’s rarely beautiful, but credit Northwestern to continue finding ways to win league games. Next up: A home date against Wisconsin in a pivotal West matchup.
8th MICHIGAN STATE (4-3, 2-2)

The Spartans arent “first team – neither will they be the last – to be humble of Wolverine’s defense, but the man. Brian Lewerke, might think that Big Ten’s best quarterback came in the fall, finished 5-of-25 for 66 yards and spartans rushed for only 15. They got outgained 395-94. Saidly.
