Prima Games, the publisher who has published video game strategies since its founding in 1990, is shut down, says the parent company DK yesterday. The label will no longer publish new guides that start now, and it will officially be closed in the spring.
Thanks to the emergence of websites such as GameFAQs and major game publications that IGN launches, their own online guides that lead to monstrous amounts of traffic print strategy strategies have been fighting for several years now. In 2015, Prima bought its biggest competitor, BradyGames, and has consistently developed guides for both print and the web, but it was not enough to survive what the company called “a significant decline” in the world of print video game guides.
Anyone who grew up consuming old strategy aids will undoubtedly feel fooled by this. But in a world where video games are constantly changing, through stains and updates, print manuals can be out-of-date before even shoveling. We have at least always Final Fantasy IX .
