Steve Kerr compares Zion Williamson with LeBron James, not asking for a fine

In his Duke debut, Zion Williamson showed that he was more than a dunker.

Considering videos of Zion Williamson’s thundering, Athletic dunks went viral well before joining high school, lots of hoops fans were aware that he had huge physical gifts. However, in the Duke’s Destruction of Season-opening Tuesday in Kentucky, the 6-foot-285-pound man showed an impressive skill approach, one with a prominent NBA coach who paid him the highest compliment.

As the warrior “Steve Kerr quickly realized the NBA dawn on civil servants as saying that he himself did not discuss himself as such. But he had already made it known that when he saw Williamson he believed his big frame by to handle the ball, hit a shot from the outside and made handsome passports, then it was just one thing: LeBron James.

asked Wednesday if he had noted anything related to Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, the freakishly talented star player for Golden State’s upcoming opponent, Kerr replied, “No, but I saw a child at Duke last night, which is quite impressive. My goodness.

“I can not say anything more or mention his name,” continued the coach before acknowledging that the Duke had “lots” of impressive young players. “The one who is 285,” he said.

“I thought LeBron, I thought it was a single deal, but apparently the next guy is coming,” Kerr said. Laughing at the collective reporters at Golden State’s training facility, he added, “Before I get a fine, I will change the subject.”

While Duke’s RJ Barrett, a freshman phenom in his own right, actually led His team with 33 points against Wildcats and is a candidate for signing No. 1 in next year’s NBA draft, Williamson has quickly emerged as Blue Devil’s most convincing player. He was much more effective than Barrett in Duke’s 118-84 triumph over Kentucky, making 11 out of 13 shots for 28 points to his teammate’s 13-of-26 shooting performance and he achieved the more difficult task in more than living up to an extraordinary amount of hype.

As with the countless number of athletic scoring wings on the college baseball scene two decades ago, hopelessly failed as “next Michael Jordan”, the comparisons with James could look very stupid, very fast for Williamson. But in the short term, it’s not hard to understand why Kerr and others would offer them.

Of course, they are not exactly the same kind of athletes, with Williamson making James, 6-8 and 250, look positively smooth. Slightly shorter and in weight that would make him the second most heavy player in the NBA this season – only Clippers’ 7-3 center, Boban Marjanovic, tips the scales at a higher number, and even then not much at 290 – Williamson’s most apt comparison can be Charles Barkley, a similar under-dimensioned forward who could bulldoze over defenders or skies over them.

In the wake of Duke’s victory over Kentucky, a former Blue Devil, now an ESPN analyst, Jay Williams, it cited the name but mixed in another former NBA star known for its rim-rocking ability. “I would go with the Charles Barkley-like frame, the aggression he plays with,” Williams said Wednesday by Williamson, “with Dominique Wilkins hops. It’s a scary combination.”

On the other hand, Jamess’s size and skill had liked him in High School of Magic Johnson, and Williamson is not nearly as talented as a distributor (in virtue, almost none have been). But what Kerr thought was about was just a feeling when looking at both players that they possess almost unfair attributes compared to their contemporaries.

In reality, it is already apparent that Williamson, as his career career ultimately turns out, is in his own unique category, just as LeBron is not magic and certainly not Jordan. At the moment, however, he may be the closest to answering the frequently asked question: “If LeBron had to spend a year in college before joining the NBA, what would it have been like? ] ? “

At the same time, Kerr has other things to worry about, like hearing from the NBA about his perhaps exaggerated comments on Wednesday. When he felt that he at least approached a refugee zone, Kerr directed to Commissioner Adam Silver with a smile: “Adam, please do not make me any where you are.”
