Sporting Kansas City 2, Portland Timbers 3 | 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs Recap

November 30, 2018 Sports 0 Views Portland Timbers is on their way to their second MLS Cup in club history…

Portland Timbers is on their way to their second MLS Cup in club history after defeating Sporting Kansas City 3-2 on Thursday at Children‘s Mercy Park in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs Western Conference Championship second leg to win the series of the same score on the aggregate.

The team played for a pointless play in the first game in Portland and Sporting appeared to be heading to the title game on December 8 against Atlanta United after a dominating first half. But Timbers came back in second 45, and while Sporting did not give up, they could not find a forward goal to finally book their ticket to the MLS Cup.

Sporting took over 20 minutes in, as Daniel Salloi was in place once again for his team, got a low crossing over goalkeeper Diego Rubio and knocked it between Timber’s defender Zarek Valentine’s leg on the way into the net.

The home team then scored two points in the first half, but both were really waved off.

Portland tied up the game and took the edge of the series shortly after half as Sebastian Blanco dropped a 25-meter swinging blast that left the crowd stunned and team mate Diego Valeri in dissatisfaction.

But nine minutes later, Valeri had to get into the act as he fought for a ball toppled by Jeremy Ebobisse and beat Sporting goalkeeper Tim Melia to lead it into the net and give Timbers a May or advantage in the series of 2 -1

Sporting kept jumping live as replacement Gerso Fernandes did in the last 10 minutes to tie up the game. Despite nine minutes of second half, Portland stopped in advance as Valeri iced the game on a counterattack 99 minutes into the game.

Three Things

  • THE GREAT IMAGE : This was a final for the MLS Cup, and Portland got the job done. For the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, it continues a gritty and exciting run through MLS Cup Playoffs. Sporting will obviously be disappointed in the result, as their striving to add their trophy fall ends a game early.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH : Valeri’s first goal was the leading goal in the match, but Blanco was another pantheon golazo in a MLS Cup Playoffs full of them.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH : Portland needed a spark and Blanco gave it and scored as the angry series and became involved in the serial clinic.
