But the Sonys Xperia XZ1 Compact not only serves to show handsome phones yet, but it makes everything so spectacular that it forces you to wonder where our obsession with big screen phones started first. Do you need more convincing? Therefore, the Xperia XZ1 Compact is a standout smartphone 2017.

As the name suggests, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is the smaller version of the Xperia XZ1 handset. It has a teeny little 4.6in 1.280 x 720 screen, releasing the pocket easily, and best of all, it’s significantly cheaper than its bigger cousin.
It does not brag on specifications, even if Qualcomm’s latest and biggest Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which can be expanded via microSD cards with up to 256GB.
There is also a 19-megapixel camera on the back that supports Sony’s new 3D scanning technology (that’s not good
Sony XZ1 Compact is £ 500, but it’s is more than the latter, and the Compact runs Android 8 Oreo with Sony’s launcher software. It’s £ 100 less than the usual size XZ1. For that price, the XZ1 Compact is just dodging the flagship territory, instead of 2017’s mid-rangers like OnePlus 5 ( £ 450) and Nokia 8 (£ 499). Samsung’s superb Galaxy S8 can be reached up to around $ 530 today, so it’s worth considering in the same price bracket.
Xperia XZ1 Compact cut a familiar figure. In fact, besides its smaller footprint and silky soft plastic mat, it is almost identical to the larger Xperia XZ1.
Compact adopts identical faced edges at the top and bottom of the phone, complete with soft rounded pages and more. h sharp corners, which are founded to play chaos with your pockets.
It’s IP68 dust and water resistant, just like the rest of Sony’s latest range. There is a fingerprint reader who performs dual tasks with the side-mounted power switch and there is a dedicated trigger for the camera on the right side.
On the top is a lonely 3.5mm headphone jack and at the bottom. You will find a USB Type C port with Quick Charge 3 support.
The 4.6in 720p screen is wearing an old hat in 2017, especially on a 500 pound smartphone. And in a year where the big manufacturers all push the least effort, the front of the XZ1 Compact looks frustrated at first. But it will counter your expectations.
Aside from full HD resolution, the XZ1 Compact’s screen is superb. The color accuracy is excellent, especially with the phone’s “professional” viewing mode. It covers 89% of the sRGB color range, the contrast ratio reaches an impressive 1,280: 1 while the brightness peaks at a sharp 611cd / m2. Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Review: Performance and Battery Life
Xperia XZ1 Compact is powered by the same octave core. This is a great smartphone display, and it will not lead you to shine on your Facebook stream in direct sunlight.
Compact is a fast handset that performs exceptionally well in XZ1 Compact benchmarks, returning close to identical multi-core and single CPUs to 2017’s other Snapdragon 835-equipped phones. Thanks to its lower resolution display, it also delivers superior graphical test results.
Battery life is also greatly improved over the standard XZ1 with Compact that reaches 16h 29mins in our continuous video playback test, as opposed to XZ1’s 12-hour life.
XZ1 Compact’s 19 Megapixel f / 2.0 rear camera is identical to the usual XZ1s and benefits from Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) for seriously stable video. The excellent “predictive” phase detection and laser autofocus also make a new look, for fast hassle shooting in all possible light conditions.
Given the higher pixel size, the images looked much sharper than those taken with OnePlus 5, capturing much detail in intricate masonry and foliage. There was a tendency to overshoot the image, leading to the loss of some of the finer details, while the low light was decent, if it was a touch on the loud side.
How about 3D scanning technology then? It’s easy to use: Shorten only a face, head, food, or any other object with the rear camera by following the dotted lines shown on the screen. You can then scan to fill in more intricate details with the camera and press to confirm when you’re ready to start doing.
The problem, despite its simplicity, is that the results are terrible inconsistent. Facial and head scan can be nice and detailed sometimes, but often you are left with a Frankenstein monster of a face, or a terribly flawed victim.
However, it is impressive that all the fine finishing is done on the handset itself, without sending it to a remote server somewhere. And there is the likelihood of future integration with Sony’s PlayStation division in the future, which could transform this otherwise gimmicky feature into a more convincing.
Sony’s XZ1 Compact is an intermediate class marveled; do not let its dark size fool you. Performance is in line with the best smartphones in the industry, it has a camera that is ideal for photographers on a budget and stunning display.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is facing tough competition, sure you’re looking forward to such smartphones as the excellent OnePlus 5 and Nokia 8, but its unique setting (at least among Android smartphones) is sure to win the fans around the world .
