Snaps new CMO

Snap’s new CMO Kenny Mitchell

When Snapchat moves into this new era of marketing itself through Bitmoji, today it announced that a new CMO, Kenny Mitchell, has been hired. He was previously marketing manager at McDonalds and head of consumer engagement at Gatorade. Mitchell monitored the sports drink‘s Serena Wlliams tennis game that lived inside a Snapchat ad and saw on average over 200 seconds of playing time and its viral Super Bowl magnified reality lens that lets you dump a cooler by Gatorade on yourself.

“Kenny’s consumer marketing expertise and his deep understanding of our products will be a good combination for Snap,” Snap CEO Evan Spiegel writes.

The company has seen many leading execs resign over the years due to clashes with Spiegel’s leadership, so we’ll see if Mitchel is sticking around. He’ll track Snaps new marketing campaign to reactivate Android users frustrated by his buggy app “I look forward to helping Evan and Snap continue to tell their history to people around the world and work with my new colleagues as we define the future of the camera and self-expression,” writes Mitchell.

Bitmoji, the Visual Identity Stock

Snap acquired the Bitmoji Parent Bits 2016 for just $ 64 million, deepening it to become a stack 10 app. Snap launched its Snap Kit platform in June 2018, allowing developers to integrate Bitmoji into the keyboards of their apps such as Tinder for use as chat or 2D profile images. And this month at Snap’s first partner talk, it launched partnerships to get Bitmoji to the Venmo feed, Fitbit watch faces and more. But now it will let 3D Bitmoji replace your in-game character from head to toe.

Currently, the SDK will be free to the best developers selected for the program from PC, Mac, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android and other platforms. Surprisingly, most devs games only build their own avatar customization feature from the beginning, but they are usually focused on clothes and crazy hairstyles than fine-tuning a face that looks like your own. And while tailor-made avatars are common in shooting games, Bitmoji can bring them to platform, racing, dancing, puzzles, fights and role-playing as well.

Bitmoji For games will not be an open platform to ensure that the brand is not abused. Blackstock explains that “You can look at what we do with Bitmoji Kit where we have best practice guidelines for using Bitmoji and not using Bitmoji. We will apply the same types of game guidelines.” It cannot mean any extra graphic violent games, or something that players can experience in infecting a personal avatar. But Fortnite, with its cartoon violence, can be an ideal Bitmoji partner.

Snap’s Global Game Partnership Manager John Imah says he could use his Bitmoji in Star Wars, Lego, Mario Kart or Warcraft titles. Depending on how their models of characters, landscapes and objects work, the developers may need to do some work to make BItmoji jobs graceful. But Imah says when it can “There will be some changes at the end to make sure this works within its engine so we can make this process as seamless as possible for those developers.”

Users will design their avatar in Bitmoji or Snapchat app, but there may be customization options in the game along the line. If users ask about importing their Bitmoji, the game will display a QR Snapcode on the screen that users can scan with the Snapchat camera. The authentication allows its Bitmoji to be used as an avatar skin in the game. Suddenly, every quest, fight and cutscene about them, is not a generic character.

Given Fortnite, hundreds of millions of dollars selling cosmetic upgrades are the inevitable issue of whether Snap will start selling bonus outfits, items or face options for Bitmoji. “It’s really early days for Bitmoji For Games. It’s something we’ll explore later on the road,” says Imah. What if the kids could buy Supreme sweatshirts or fresh Nikes for their Bitmoji? It can be a lucrative new company for Snap that is strengthened by every Bitmoji partnership and at a time when it is important to increase revenue and reduce losses that it aims at profitability.

Bitmoji For Games can cement Snapchat as the best way to visually represent yourself online without a photo. Since the darker sides of the Internet and human nature are the focus of the technology industry, we need more ways to be ourselves while retaining our integrity. Bitmoji can deliver the emotional link to see himself as the hero but the risks of revealing your true face.
