This means that other schools can now contact the former five-star on transfer. pic.twitter.com/RYJL1BHBel – Paul Maharry (@pmaharry) December 18, 2018 This is all very exciting, but does not mean he's completely transferring. It just means that other coaches (hello, Ryan Day) are allowed to contact him. He is not required to transfer and can still stay in Georgia. Fields can be removed from the portal whenever he wants, and in the meantime he can remain on the team and participate in practice. Word of the day: Circular resolution.

FUTURE BUCKEYE ZACH HARRISON. Hey, remember when everything was bad and Zach Harrison went safely north? Let’s have a look at “ole crystal ball”

As much as nothing would shock me about this situation, I would be totally shocked if Harrison signed somewhere but Ohio State today.

ITSHAPPENING.GIF. People Justin Fields are officially on the market.

This is all very exciting, but does not mean he’s completely transferring. It just means that other coaches (hello, Ryan Day) are allowed to contact him. He is not required to transfer and can still stay in Georgia.

Fields can be removed from the portal whenever he wants, and in the meantime he can remain on the team and participate in practice. Hell, he can still play Dawgs in the sugar bowl if that’s what his heart wants. And it looks like he might do it.

From Mark Schlabach of ESPN:

“[Fields transferring] is an opportunity, but we expect him to play in the sugar bowl, says the source.” It’s not done. He practiced [Monday] and practiced his ass. He will investigate what’s out there. He can come back. “

The source said Fields and his father have had several meetings with Bulldog coach Kirby Smart about his future in recent weeks, and Fields has not formally requested a transfer.

This is fascinating, but it is much more fascinating to know that the worst scenario is the 2017 Gatorade High School Player of the Year, who has never lost a game competing with a rocket-armed redshirt freshman.

Somehow things will be fine!

WHAT IF THE AREAS DO NOT COME? Shockingly, Buckeyes would really like to acquire services of one of the best quarterback prospects ever. It also looks like said quarterback prospect is interested in coming to Ohio State.

But it’s not like Fields falls in their knees like someone who’s too talented to pass. Even if he does not come, Buckeyes will probably see to get a transfer quarterback with Dwayne Haskins leaving.

From Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sport:

This means that Buckeye coaches would be inherently open to a transfer, as they have zero quarterbacks with a starting experience on their roster. Tate Martell is the most experienced, but he has only tried 28 career passes. Can he throw the ball well enough to be a quarterback who can win Big Ten? There has been quiet buzz in the Buckeye plant about true beginner Matthew Baldwin, who was angry from Colorado State to Buckeyes prior to the National Signing Day last year. Baldwin was limited by knee injury during the spring and early summer, but he blinked in the long run. Is he ready? Unlikely. Ohio State’s involvement, Dwan Mathis, is physically talented and has a high reputation, but there is no threat that he directly contributes.

It would leave a logical place for an experienced alternative from the outside. If Fields ends in Oklahoma or elsewhere, both Hurts and Wimbush can be investigated here.

It’s obvious that none of these guys are as exciting as Fields, but it’s hard to put down someone who can help Bucks.

JIMMY D SUPPORTS EXPANSION, ACTUAL. Yesterday I shared a piece that indicates that Big Ten Commander Chief Jim Delany was anti-playoff expansion. And it seems that it is not the case.

From Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic ($):

Add Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany to the growing choir that requires a review of the Common Fisheries Policy now, well before the end of Playoff’s first 12-year contract with ESPN ending in 2026.

“The Big Ten would like to discuss structural problems with colleagues,” said Delany The Athletic. “It’s a good idea, considering all the conversations and sounds around the problem, having discussions with our colleagues.

“The Big Ten would definitely have conversations.”

It’s not really “expand playoff now !!!!!” but it’s probably as good as we will get the source and the important position he has.

It sounds a bit more promising than “the current system is good and good”, which is basically the feeling we have received from him.

PENGUIN SUPPORT BUCKS. People, Buckeyes are everywhere. Even on the other side.

You must love the opposing coach to drop a “we” at the press conference.
