“Mr. Soros is a prominent investor and we watched his investment and trading activities related to Facebook. This survey was already running when Sheryl sent an email that Soros had mapped Facebook’s stock,” said the chairman. “Sheryl never led research on freedom from Facebook, but as she said before taking full responsibility for any activity that happened on her watch.”

Freedom from Facebook is an anti-Facebook group.

Earlier this month, the widely reported New York Times article described how CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Sandberg played the internal efforts to assess Russia’s inaccurate information campaigns, and then tried to reject the public review on Facebook’s competitors instead.

The report claimed that, as Facebook’s alleged criticism of the company, was anti-semitic, a controversial PR company that worked to try to plant the idea that Soros &#821

Sandberg responded for his part saying that some of the allegations were “simply unlikely” but acknowledged that the company was “too slow” to respond to the Russian interference on the site. At Soros, Sandberg said that she was not aware that Facebook had hired the PR company or the work as it did. “I have great respect for George Soros – and the anti-Semitic conspiracy theories against him are abominable,” she added.

Last week, Facebook’s outgoing communications and public policy, Elliot Schrage, took the responsibility of hiring PR firm Defenders Public Affairs.
