Samsung revealed the Infinity Flex screen for the folding Galaxy F during its SDC18 keynote on Wednesday, but it’s not the only new hardware that the company showed us during the event. We now know that Samsung is about to embrace the infamous iPhone X note, something that has been avoided for more than a year now. But that does not mean that the upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship will have a hack, and a detail from Samsung’s presentation gives us a good reason to be excited about future notch design.
Samsung revealed a lot of displays that will soon become part of the Infinity family other than Infinity Flex for folding. These are Infinity U, Infinity V, Infinity O, and New Infinity. These marketing terms mean nothing without any visual guidelines. This is the picture Samsung shared on the scene, via Android Police :
As you can see, two of the four Infinity above camera screens display U and V characters. A third screen has a hole in the form of the letter O, what kind of display Samsung retas recently and a screen design that we expected to see in the Galaxy S10.
But then there’s the New Infinity screen on the right which has absolutely no bezel on top. It is unclear when this new infinity display will be launched, but it looks like the kind of expensive display you can expect on flagship devices. The kind of display that does not need any holes or scraps to accommodate cameras and sensors. This is the type of screen that would contain different elements, including front speakers and camera, under the glass. Samsung has already made a screen that directs sound via the screen via the legs, so of course Samsung is now exploring the speaker under the screen. Slide the camera under the display, but it may be harder.
Samsung did not display the entire screens in the image above, but I suppose these Infinity screens would not have bottom chronicles. That is, I hope Samsung simultaneously removes both top and bottom frames, just like Apple did, rather than going on the Copycat route. Most iPhone X clones have bottom frames.
With all that in mind, Samsung has perfected the technology of mass production of New Infinity Monitors for the Galaxy S10? Or will the Galaxy S10 have a small interior on the top? Maybe an Infinity O hole, as shown above?
Cheaper Galaxy phones from 2019 can pack Infinity U and V screens, while more expensive interphones and advanced phones can get Infinity O and New Infinity screens, but it’s just my speculation. In addition, the technology used to create new Infinity patterns, Samsung also offers similar screen designers to the best smartphone manufacturers, including Apple and Google. Together, the iPhone X, XS, XS Max and Pixel 3 XL have all the OLED screens of Samsung Display.
