CLEVELAND, Ohio – Taylor Ceepo, 22, after collapsing on the Cleveland Marathon this morning, officials say.
Spokesman George Stamatis at the University Hospital said that Ceepo, of the Medina, collapsed in the race and was taken into emergency officials. The university hospital provides first aid to the marathon.
Stamatis said that Ceepo was dead on arrival at the hospital. He could not provide any further information on the symptoms she exhibited due to the patient’s integrity. It is also too early to determine the cause of death.
“We are very sorry to learn that the young woman passed that collapsed during the race this morning,” said Jack Staph, chief executive of a statement. “Our thoughts and sympathy go out to their family and friends right now.”
National administrators were not immediately available for further comment Sunday afternoon.
UH’s caregivers treated about 60 to 70 people at the marathon, Stamatis said. There were a variety of diseases including orthopedic problems, muscle sprays and dehydration.
Stamatis could not say how many of these treatments were related to heat. The marathon was warmer than average this year, with temperatures reaching over the 80’s late morning. The normal temperature for the marathon is a high of 70 degrees.
