NEW YORK (AP) – The largest ship ever built for Britain’s Royal Navy is visiting New York for a week.

The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth sailed to New York Harbor on Friday with approximately 1,500 seamen.

Coming Officer Capt. Jerry Kyd called the visit “very symbolic of the intimate relationship Royal Navy has with the US Navy and Marine Corps.”

The vessel is anchored with the Freedom goddess and can be seen by the Staten Island Ferry commuter.

The 932 foot (284 meter) warrior can hold up to 60 aircraft.

Britain’s Defense Minister Gavin Williamson welcomed Queen Elizabeth to New York. He called the ship “a symbol of our commitment to our # security and security for our allies” on Twitter.
