While there is still no mention when Season 1 will begin, Respawn has held true to its promise to provide regular updates on what is in the pipeline for Apex Legends.

The latest “Respawn Check In” contains important information on issues such as crashes, slow server performance, and more.

Apex Legends has seen over 50 million players load into the game over the past month.

Crashes

While a recently updated NVIDIA update solved some of the biggest crash problems for many players, AMD owners were left in the cold.

Respawn confirmed this with the update on March 8 and assured players that the next PC patch will contain some very necessary crash enhancements.

However, not all problems will be solved, but a reporting function is teased for season 1 which will help to insure the nail down further improvements.

Jokes

It’s no secret that Apex Legends has a big problem with hackers, with 16,000 being banned during the first two weeks of the release.

It has been confirmed by Respawn that as of March 8, over 355,000 players have been banned, but they clarified that this is “an ongoing war that [they’ll] must continue to adapt to.”

Respawn Entertainment

Crashes and cheaters have been some of the biggest problems in Apex Legends during the first month of play.

Will there be a feedback function soon?

With the number of crashes the players are currently experiencing, a feedback function would be a perfect way to make sure that the players do not stop leaving a teammate.

Unfortunately, Respawn has closed the door on this opportunity by confirming that the feature is something they “currently do not pursue”.

They possibly named abuse and the number of resources required as the main reasons why it is not in plans at the moment.

Poor server performance

Finally, Respawn reports poor performance at the beginning of matches and stated that they “narrow down the causes and improve”.

Repeat Check-in: 3.8.2019

Hello friends,

Before going into the weekend we wanted to address some topics:

CHEATERS

Beginning today I have banned over 355K players on PC via Easy-Anti-Cheat. The service works but the fight against cheaters is an ongoing war that we must continue to adapt to and be very vigilant against the fighting. We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about Apex Legends health for all players.

We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we have to become quite secretive about our plans. Cheaters are leafy and we don’t want them to see us coming. That being said, we can share some high things we do:

  • We reach out and work directly with experts, both inside and outside EA, in this area that we can learn from.
  • Peeling up our anti-cheat team so we have more dedicated resources.
  • We add a report feature to the computer to report cheaters in the game that goes directly to Easy-Anti-Cheat.

SPAMERS UNDER CHARACTER SELECT

] We are very aware of the cases of players spamming during character selection and the drop and then disconnecting shortly after. We keep much of our strategy near the chest so that criminals do not have time to build solutions before we make changes. Solutions will not happen immediately but we are on it.

CRASHES

Next week, AMD will be at the studio and just as we did with Nvidia visits, we work together to improve the stability and performance of the computer. In the next client patch on PC we will deal with some of the known crashes, but there will still be work to do which we have not nailed down any crashes yet. In season 1, we will add improved reporting that would help us identify and smash more problems with the PC crash.

I’ve seen it shared here but if anyone missed it, Nvidia has released a driver update for RTX users who have experienced the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG crash especially for GeForce RTX cards and we continue to work with Nvidia to improve performance and stability.

RECONNECT FEATURE

We’ve heard suggestions from your people asking for a feedback to match the feature. We are currently not pursuing this for any reason:

  1. It opens up a great risk of players abusing it.
  2. We believe that the resources needed to build, test and release it are better spent focusing on determining stability issues so that the function is not necessary.

SLOW SERVER PERFORMANCE AT START MATCHES

We have seen these reports and reduced the causes and improvements. If it could be solved by spending money on faster / more servers we would do so, but unfortunately there is no silver bullet on this one. We just roll up our sleeves and dig in. We keep you updated on all the progress we make.

Have a good weekend all and have it great for each other! See you next week.
