Researchers have finally confirmed that the massive object in the heart of our galaxy is in fact a super massive black hole.

Researchers used the European Southern Observatory’s sensitive GRAVITY instrument on the very large telescope (VLT) to observe infrared radiation stains coming from the shooter around Sagittarius A * – the massive object in the middle of our galaxy. Researchers believe that most galaxies have a super massive black hole at the center, but they had never previously had data and observations to prove it.

To measure the effects of gravity near a black hole, researchers needed to observe an item actually traveling close to it. They found their mark in a small star called S2, whose orbit takes it deep within Sagittarius A * gravity every 1

6 years. When they saw, the three bright spots that traveled around the black hole’s event horizon saw about 30 percent of light speed – about 216 million miles per hour.

“We watched S2 carefully, and of course we always keep an eye on Sagittarius EN *. During our observations, we were lucky enough to notice three bright lights from the black hole – it was a success!” Oliver Pfuhl, a researcher at Max Planck- Institute of Alien Physics (MPE) in Garching, Germany, said in a statement.

Correct assumptions

This is the first time researchers have observed material that revolves around this near a black hole’s physical point. These are also the most detailed observations ever made of materials that are so close to a black hole.
