A team of researchers from Anglia Ruskin University and University of Exeter, UK, has created the soundtrack of the March Sunrise captured by NASA’s Mars Rover Opportunity, using data sonication techniques to create a two minute music. Anglia Ruskin University’s doctor Domenico Vicinanza and Dr. Genevieve Williams at the University of Exeter created the piece of music by scanning a picture from left to right, pixel for pixel and viewing on brightness and color information
They used algorithms to assign each element a specific pitch and melody.

“We are very pleased to present this work on such a fascinating planet,” said Vicinanza.
“Image sonification is a really flexible technology for exploring science and it can be used in several areas , from stud your certain features of planet surfaces and atmospheres, to analyze weather changes or to detect volcanic eruptions. “
