Read Kevin Smith's Emotional Response to Captain Marvel Scene Those seeing Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel in theaters this weekend got two emotional tributes to Stan Lee during the movie, one of which is related to director and fanboy Kevin Smith. BEWARE OF SPOILERS and check out Smith's response to seeing the movie below! SPOILERS: Captain Marvel begins with a special Marvel Studios logo tribute to Stan Lee, with The Marvel Comics mastermind's many film was shown on the logo with the final message, "Thank you, Stan." But later in the movie, during the scene where Carol Danvers is chasing a Skrull onboard a Los Angeles train, she passes by a familiar face: Stan "The Man" Lee himself, seated reading the script for Smith's 1995 film Mallrats and practicing the line "Trust me, true believer!" This is in reference to the cameo gift in that very movie 23 years ago opposite Jason Lee. Danvers gives him a knowing smile. It is a touching scene in the light of his death in November of last year, and also provides an era-perfect cultural pinpoint for the period in the 90's Captain Marvel is set in.
