Rapper YNW Melly faces the death penalty for the alleged death of two friends last year, showing court records.
The once rising artist, whose real name is Jamell Demons, committed two cold-blooded murders for financial gain, Broward County, Florida, the State Attorney’s Office said in his statement of intent to seek the death penalty.
The crime was “particularly cruel, cruel or cruel”, according to the court document filed last week.
Miramar Police arrested the Kanye West colleague in February in connection with his friends Christopher Thomas Jr. 19, and Anthony Williams 21, deadly shots.
Authorities say the 19-year-old and his friend Cortlen Henry, 20, tried to cover up on October 26, 201
8 and slaying by placing the crime scene to look like a run.
Victims – Williams was known as YNW Sakchaser and Thomas as YNW Juvy – attempted to create their own rap careers when they were killed. Demons were an emerging talent in Florida’s thriving hip-hop scene and had worked with West on a song released earlier this year.
Demons imprisoned without binding have alleged guilty. His next look is Thursday.
