Like the fast-announced Snapdragon 855, Snapdragon 8cx is built on a 7nm process – a first in calculated space, according to the company. This transistor-rich footprint should provide much better performance and possibly longer battery life. The 8cx is also designed for fanless laptops to keep these devices thin and easy to carry anywhere throughout the day.
Inside the 8cx is an all-new graphics processor, the Adreno 680 Extreme, which Qualcomm sa is twice as fast as the Adreno GPU on Snapdragon 850 and 3.5 times faster than the first Snapdragon computers with the 835 chipset. Plus, the Adreno 680 has a dual-memory interface from 64bit to 1
28bit wide and will be 60% more energy efficient than the 850’s graphics card. Overall, Qualcomm calls it as “the most extreme GPU (it) ever done.”
The company also made a new octave core Kryo 495 processor for the chip and designed it to drive Chrome better than Snapdragon 850 thanks to the increased cache memory (now 10 MB).
Qualcomm also said it has tested getting Chrom transferred to ARM, which would mean better performance for a large number of apps. It expects this to work at the end of the year (which obviously is not left), but implementing the new version of the operating system is out of hand.

The Snapdrago n 8cx comes with an X24 gigabit LTE modem, so it’s not just a 5G card. But you should be able to get up to 2 Gbps transfers where your o perate has the necessary infrastructure.
The new chipset also represents the first time the Snapdragon platform is ready for Windows 10 enterprise users, which means companies can purchase these computers for their employees with easy control for IT administrators.
With Snapdragon 8cx, Qualcomm also introduces Quick Charge 4+ for computers so you can load quickly when you’re out of juice. Chipset also comes with Qualcomm’s Aqstic Series of audio technology like codecs, smart amplifiers and software to offer high-quality Bluetooth audio, as well as support voice assistants. You can also stream HiFi audio thanks to Qualcomm’s aptX technology.
There is also support for second generation USB 3.1 over Type C and third-generation PCI-E so you can connect a variety of peripherals. In fact, you can connect to two 4K HDR monitors to your Snapdragon 8cx-enabled laptop.
In addition to all these improvements, Qualcomm also promises several days of battery life with Snapdragon 8cx. Given that the company already promises up to 20 and 25 hours of laptops using Snapdragon 835 and 850, the idea of several days of juice does not seem too ridiculous. Of course, it depends on what other portable computer components are used.
Snapdragon 850 does not go away sometime, but it thinks of it as an Intel-U series chip compared to the more robust Snapdragon 8cx, which is more like Intel’s Y series. Probably, 8cx-powered computers cost more than their 850-packed counterparts. Qualcomm said there will be more laptops that pack Snapdragon 850 next year, in addition to the first 8cx product that begins to ship in the third quarter of 2019.
