All 400 uneven petrol pumps together with CNG dispensers linked in the national capital will be closed on Monday in protest against the Delhi government’s refusal to reduce VAT on fuels, the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) said in a statement.

There are about 400 petrol pumps in Delhi that have also linked CNG stations (CNG) and all will be closed for almost 24 hours in protest from 6:00 AM onwards on October 22 and remain closed until 5:00 in October 23, said it.

DPD President Nischal Singhania said that “the state had lowered gasoline and diesel quota by Rs 2.50 per liter each September 4. This was followed by the reduction of value added tax (VAT) by various states including neighbors Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, which gives rise to their inhabitants.

“However, the Delhi government refused to reduce the VAT on both gasoline and diesel fuel, which resulted in fuel becoming more expensive than bordering on Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.”

In comparison with Delhi, fuel prices in neighboring countries like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are cheaper, he said.

Due to the high price in Delhi and low prices in states such as UP and Haryana, customers lose the gas pumps in Delhi, leading to a significant sales decline, Singhania said.

Due to price differential, there has been a 50-60 percent drop in diesel sales in Delhi and 25 percent gasoline in the quarter, the DPDA president said and added that in 400 Monday all 400 Pumps from Delhi will neither buy nor sell gasoline , diesel and CNG.

He said the festival season is the peak season for the sale of fuel due to social travel by residents.

“DPDA urges the Delhi government to immediately reduce VAT on gasoline and diesel and encourage commuters to buy Euro VI fuel and save the supply of employees and owners of gas pumps in Delhi and also save the state’s revenue loss,” said the statement.
