OnePlus founder Carl Pei confirmed that the company will release a 5G smartphone next year. This has happened at the 4G / 5G summit in Hong Kong, where the company’s founder actually joined Qualcomm’s president, Cristiano Amon, on stage and confirmed the news. Before that, Cristiano Amon said that Qualcomm expects at least two 5G flagships next year, but it’s quite likely we’ll see more of them. In any case, Pei also said that OnePlus, according to his knowledge, would be one of the first, if not the first company to release a 5G smartphone. Carl Pei added that his team had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters earlier this year, back in August. Given that OnePlus releases two flagships a year and that the two devices are the only smartphones that the company releases throughout the year, OnePlus probably referred to OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7T, which will arrive in 201
9. After saying that it is possible that OnePlus 7 is the current device because Amon actually suggested that the product can arrive at H1 2019 and OnePlus 7 is expected to start in May or June next year, one year after the OnePlus 6. The device is likely to ship with Snapdragon X50 5G- modem and QTM052 mmWave antenna module.
Background: OnePlus is not the only company that plans to introduce a 5G flagship in the near future, not even close, virtually all major smartphones companies out there plan to do. Xiaomi has already plagued its upcoming 5G flagship, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, which will arrive in a couple of days, October 25th. Xiaomi had already confirmed that the phone will support 5G, although such speeds are no longer available, but Mi MIX 3 is ready when available. In addition, the phone will come with 10GB of RAM, and super fast charging, not to mention it will have a ring-free design and a display system. Mi MIX 3 will be a competitor of OnePlus 6T, which will arrive on October 29th, both devices will be powered by Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa processor, but OnePlus 6T will probably not be sent with support for 5G, at least suggesting the company not that OnePlus 7 will almost certainly want. OnePlus 7 is, however, a mystery right now, as the device is still half a year after it was released, and nothing has been confirmed yet, as OnePlus 6T is next in line to become official. However, the OPPO R19 leaked quite recently, and if that leak is correct, OnePlus 7 will likely resemble it with regard to its design. The OPPO R19 that actually has a front edge cutout, but it’s not something, because it’s not connected to the top of the device, it’s basically a small camera “island” on top of the show. An extremely thin “chin” is under the display of the alleged OPPO R19 that leaked, so OnePlus 7 can exert such a “chin” as well. OnePlus 7 will be powered by next generation Qualcomm processor, the reputed Snapdragon 8150 aka Snapdragon 855, we are still not sure what name Qualcomm chooses. The phone is likely to be sent in 6GB and 8GB of RAM variants, unless OnePlus chooses to go even higher, like Xiaomi with Mi MIX 3, you can expect to see 10GB of RAM in the OnePlus 7 top line, so we get just see 8GB and 10GB RAM variants of the phone. The device is likely to be made of metal and glass while you expect to see a fingerprint scanner included in the package as such a fingerprint module will also be included in the upcoming OnePlus 6T so it’s safe to assume that its successor will be sports That too, although there is a great chance that it will be noticeably slower and less accurate than the usual capacitive device found in OnePlus 6.
Impact: 5G smartphones will be a big deal next year, though 5G will not be anything before the second half, at least according to all the information that has occurred in recent months. 5G is definitely a talking point for next year and smartphones coming out, while we will see a lot of smartphones out there that support 5G. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus will almost certainly also support 5G, and virtually all major flagships will arrive in 2019, as technology is here, so all that is required is that carriers should start shooting 5G speeds, so that Consumers can benefit from them. It is obvious that Xiaomi will be the first with the Mi MIX 3 party, as Xiaomi clearly suggested it will support 5G, so it’s left to see where OnePlus fits in, as OnePlus 7 is scheduled to arrive after the Galaxy S10 series and some other major flagships in 2019. The company can still surprise us and pack in 5G support in OnePlus 6T launched in less than a week, but considering that we have not seen any tips that it may happen provided by the company, it comes probably not the case, unless Carl Peis look at Qualcomm’s summit would suggest it. In any event, 5G support will be a feature that almost all major companies will target next year and we will see if any other phone released in 2019 will be sent with 5G support out of the box, in addition to Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 , but it’s not so likely.
