The annual spectrum is developed in the night sky between September and November each year when the earth passes through a waste field from Comet Encke. The dust associated with the comet hits the earth’s atmosphere at 65,000 mph and burns, creating the Taurides, according to NASA.

While the Taurides only produce a handful of shot stars an hour for a few years, the fireballs that stretch across the sky will often be bright and spectacular.

The peak time to see the year’s celestial screen is around midnight this week, but NASA meteorologist Bill Cooke said that Space.com viewers will be able to see the meteors in late November.
