Johnston County, N.C. – Greg Phillpotts said his runny nose plagued him for five years. Last year, his family’s Thanksgiving party was destroyed when fluid suddenly poured from a nostrils and into the food, WTVD reports.
“I prepared a meal and stood in the kitchen, and it just added to the ingredients – it was screwed up all dinner,” said North Carolina dad. While he had an operation to correct the problem in September, he recently talked to WTVD about his rare condition.
Phillpotts had lived in New York until two years ago when he moved south to Johnston County after his wife retired.
For years, Phillpotts told the shady state of allergies and told WCBS in September, a doctor in North Carolina had diagnosed him with pneumonia and bronchitis.
After several years of fetal tissue in his nose, he left him a determined February to decide what was on his body. Phillpotts said a cough had held him a whole night and scared him enough to find another doctor.
This time he got the correct diagnosis.
In September, Dr. Alfred Iloreta decided to New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital The nipple nose had actually leaked cerebral spinal fluid.
“It is leaked with fluid that surrounds the brain to dampen it primarily to protect it from shock or trauma or something like that,” Iloreta WTVD told.
Left untreated, the constant leakage can result in a dangerous infection, said Iloreta.
A minimal invasive skull operation was all that was required to fix the leak. Doctors used a flap of Phillpot’s skin from another part of his body like a patch.
After five years of torture, Phillpotts was overjoyed.
“You’ve ever been so overloaded that you can not breathe and all of a sudden you can breathe again?” He asked. “Do you know what relief it was?”
