Nelson Agholor may no longer be a member of the eagles. According to the NFL insider Ian Rapoport, teams around the league show Philadelphia slots wide receivers available through trading until 2019 NFL Draft.
There are several reasons why this report comes as no big surprise.
Agholor’s $ 9.4 million salary is high in relation to what he is worth. This is a player who is currently trying to be the fourth or fifth targeted player in Philly’s offensive this season.
The eagles have also clearly done homework on the broad receiver location that leads up to 2019 NFL Draft. They have actually hosted more recipients on official pre-draft visits than any other position. And most recipient groups that they have shown interest in have castle skills.
Agholor is currently focused on being a free agent in 2020. It seems possible that the eagles have contacted him for an extension to lower his cap figure and keep him in the long term. If so, it seems that the two sides cannot agree with his value. And thus the eagles can be ready to move on from their first round in 2015.
It remains to be seen what the eagles could get for Agholor in a trade considering that he would make a lot of money on a one-year agreement. Maybe they can trade him for a veteran linebacker? Or maybe they can pack Agholor and say that one of their fourth round chooses to move up in a third round?
It will be interesting to see what the eagles do in the recipient position in this year’s draft and how it affects Agholor’s future. It would not surprise me if Agholor has already played his last snap for Philly.
