It looks like Betsy DeVos is in the crosshairs of the new majority-democratic representative house. Politico reports that several committees in the House plan to investigate the Trump Administration’s Education Secretary.
According to the article, the house is laser focused on DeVos to make significant changes to Obama’s education policy that they consider to be harmful to the American public. Some of these DeV’s changes include a waiver of rules on profit-making colleges, her review of sexual abuses policies at university libraries, and her failure to initiate automatic tuition.
As NPR reports DeVos has already been awakened to neglect to make student loans forgiven by an organization called residential and economic lawyers. They claim that the education secretary has violated defense rules stating that the department should not collect payments from students who have been deceived by colleges.
“Betsy DeVos has brought a special blend of incompetence and wickedness against Washington ̵
1; and it’s rocket fuel for each committee in a new congress that will finally provide supervision,” says Seth Frotman, the now-term consumer finance agency’s leading student loan manager. Politico reports that he left his position to resist the education policy implemented by Trump Administration.
The Veterans Committee is also interested in investigating the Ministry of Education for its obvious efforts to protect preschools from regulation.
“I want to investigate to what extent her regulations of regulations affect the veterans negatively,” says Rep. Mark Takano, California Democrat, who is expected to lead the Veterans Committee.
As a previous article from Politico noted the veteran rights groups were worried when Betsy DeVos suggested that students fooled by profit-making colleges should have expired on their loans before they were forgiven. A plan like this is particularly dangerous for service members as it undermines their access to the safety distances they need for their work. When someone in armed forces is standardizing on a federal loan, they can lose their security decisions and thus their supply.
“It really puts them between a rock and a hard place: Do I lose my job or be kicked out of the military to recover this money from a federal student loan that used to pay for fraudulent education?” Asked Aniela Szymanski, Chief Executive Officer for Veterinary Benefits at the Military Officers Association of America.
But Politico Politico reports that Betsy DeVo’s main opponent in the House of Representatives is expected to become Virginia Democrat Bobby Scott. He is likely to be chairman of the House’s Education Committee. According to Politico he has been a reasonable critic of the education secretary and has said he will not hesitate to resist DeVo’s education policy.
