Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Warning about a Threat Threats by the Spread of a Chewing Species New in the United States

The Asian Longhorned tick has been reported in several states since its discovery in the United States in 2017, CDC said Thursday. The bracket has been found in Arkansas, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia on pets, live animals, wildlife and two people.

Other countries have reported that people and animals become seriously ill from Asian longhorned tick bites. No harmful bacteria have been found so far in ticks collected in the United States, according to CDC.

However, CDC calls for caution.

“The complete public health and agricultural impact of this pussy discovery and spread is unknown,” says Ben Beard, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the CDC Division of Vector-Borne Diseases. “In other parts of the world, the Asian longhorned tick can transmit many types of pathogens common in the United States. We are concerned that this fortress, which can cause massive infestations on animals, humans and the environment, spreads in the United States.”

CDC said it is currently investigating the distribution of the bracket in the United States and the risk of disease associated with it.
