It appears that the new Alien game launched in January may have a name. 20th Century Fox has filed a trademark application for a new video game called Alien: Blackout.
Brand applications do not always result in advertisements of a new product. It’s possible that 20th Century Fox just grabbed the brand to protect future opportunities to make a game called Alien: Blackout. For what it’s worth, Activision played brands like Call of Duty: Secret Warfare and others who never came.
About Alien: Blackout really is a real game, a place where it can be announced is at The Game Awards next month on December 6th. Organizer Geoff Keighley has claimed that this year’s show will contain many messages and surprises, including those from “big franchises”. The Alien series would surely meet the criteria to be a “big franchise”.
Earlier this month Keighley released a cryptic teaser for The Game Awards with tagline “Worlds Will Change.” Intrinsically, the font appears to be what Weyland Industries uses in the Alien series.
A new Alien game for console and PC was launched in January this year. This game is being developed in San Francisco-based Cold Iron Studios, founded in 2015 and now owned by FoxNext, which is Fox’s Fox division. Cold Iron is manned by people working on titles like Neverwinter, Star Trek Online, Heroes City, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands, Doom and Metroid Prime 3. The new Alien game will be Cold Irons first title.
In addition to the fact that it’s a shooter, FoxNext also said that this game will “deliver an action-packed gaming experience.” No other details are available right now.
Since there are no details yet, it is possible Alien: Blackout is called Cold Irons game or maybe something completely different.
2014’s Alien: Isolation from UK Studio Creative Assembly is the latest part in the Alien video game series for console and PC. The game sold more than 2 million copies. Creative Assembly talked about ideas for a sequel, but it remains to see if it will ever happen.
