After allegations of sexual misconduct and under investigation by the National Geographic and Fox Broadcasting Company Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson has broken his silence. While apologizing for making a woman feel uncomfortable, he denied a long-standing statement that he pulled and raped a woman while in primary school together.

In a long service shared with Facebook on Saturday, astrophysics wondered what was marked by groping in a report on the religious blog Patheos under a photo-up of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) 2009. Katelyn Allers, Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Bucknell University, argued that during a post conference event, Tyson followed a tattoo of Pluto “to [her] dress.” She also told the blog that Tyson was “not someone who has great respect for female body autonomy”.

Tyson said that he only learned (nine years after) that she thought this behavior was unpleasant “and that he was” deeply sad that she made her feel so. “He added:

Do I have heard about her discomfort at that moment, I would have offered the same excuse me agerly and in place. In my eyes I am a friendly and easily accessible guy, but in future I can certainly be more sensitive to people’s personal space, even in the middle of my planetary enthusiasm.

Tyson also raised accusations by Ashley Watson, his former assistant, that she had to finish her job after Tyson came to her. Watson worked for Tyson in the summer and told Patheos that she experienced inappropriate behavior by Tyson which occurred over wine and cheese at home after hours.

Tyson confirmed a meeting where Watson picked up the evening and told him that his behavior made her uncomfortable. He specifically treated e A meeting reported by Patheos that involved an Indian handshake described by the blog as “incredibly intimate”.

I never touched her until I shook my hand on my departure. By that time, I had offered a special handshake, one of which I learned from a native elder on reserve ground at the edge of the Grand Canyon. You stretch your thumb forward under the handshake to feel the other person’s vital second energy pulse. I’ve never forgotten that handshake, and I’m saving it for appreciation of people with whom I’ve developed new friendships.

At the last meeting in my office, I apologized. She accepted the apology. And I assured her that I knew she was uncomfortable, I would apologize for the place, stopped at night and maybe remind her of the second social meeting she could attend. She nevertheless declared her last day, with just a few days left of production.

Tyson wrote that Watson’s last gesture to me was the offer of a hug, which I accepted as a farewell friend. ” He did not raise a Patheos claiming that Tyson told Watson during the meeting that she would never “get through the wires of her career because she was too” distracting. “

The author of the Patheos report, David McAfee, has repeatedly perceived a statement by Tchiya Amet in a blog post 201

4 that Tyson drew and raped her. Amet claims that the rape occurred in 1984 when she and Tyson were in high school together at the University of Texas in Austin. In an interview published in November, Amet told an event that “she released the program, suffered from PTSD and sought therapy repeatedly.”

Tyson wrote that he had a “short relationship” with Amet and remembered to “be intimate just a few times, everything in her apartment, but chemistry was not there”. Tyson said he ran into her a few years later when he learned that she had lost her bachelor’s degree program.

Patheos reported that Amet changed his name from “Staci Hambric”, which appears to be confirmed by Tyson, who wrote that he did not recognize her name when Amet accused him of rape in 2014. In his letter, Tyson denied rape charges, writing: 19659005] [A] according to her blog posts, the drug and rape statement comes from an assumption of what happened to her for one night she does not remember. It is as if a false memory had been implanted, which, for it never happened, must be remembered as an evening she does not remember. She also will not wake up the next morning and go to the office. I found out everything she wrote about her stories morphed over time. This is sad, as for me, I’m defying the explanation.

Following the allegations published by Patheos, National Geographic and Fox, which air Cosmos announced that they launched an investigation of the allegations. Tyson wrote on Facebook that he welcomes the request.

“Accusations can hurt a reputation and a marriage. Sometimes irreversible,” said Tyson. “I see myself as [a] loving man and an official – a researcher and teacher serving to the will of the public. I am grateful for the support I received from those who continue to respect and value me and my work.”
